| | ART in the WCUW Harold Stevens Gallery | |
Saturday, September 5, thru Monday, October 5: Sidelights
The Harold Stevens Gallery presents “ Sidelights: An Immersive Multimedia Installation” by Matthew Wasser.
What happens when a painting becomes a portal—and the viewer becomes part of the artwork?
In Sidelights, Worcester multimedia artist Matthew Wasser transforms the Harold Stevens Gallery into an immersive environment where projection, light, sound, and movement converge to blur the boundaries between physical and virtual space. The installation combines multiple projectors, interactive video technology, ambient sound, and subtle recitations from Shakespeare to create a space that is both contemplative and playful. Visitors are encouraged to interact and explore the possibilities in this evolving visual landscape.
Wasser is an internationally known video and media artist. His work includes, lighting design for theatre, dance, and opera productions across the United States and abroad. A recent MFA graduate from Clark
University/Becker School of Design and Technology and is presently employed at the Boston Museum of Science.
See a sample video.
Made possible in part through a grant from the Worcester Cultural Coalition.

Thursday, September 10, thru Saturday, September 12: Cinema Worcester at the FrontRoom Presents “Late Fame”
Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW FrontRoom presents “Late Fame”, a film by Kent Jones.
This thoughtful, witty film is a wistful yet unromantic look at a lost idea of downtown New York.
Ed Saxberger, a forgotten New York poet, works in the post office. After an eager and flattering young admirer appears on his doorstep, Saxberger is beckoned into a coterie of twenty-something admirers who anoint him as a rediscovered genius.Intoxicated by the attention — and by the alluring presence of Gloria, the group’s “tragic heroine” — Saxberger gradually reckons with the authenticity of his newfound poetic circle.
“Late Fame is a funny, lively, poignant, and occasionally haunting New York story.” – Film Forum
“Willem Dafoe is low key and magnificent as a former poet seemingly rescued from obscurity… In a prolific career filled with complex and striking characters, the role of Ed Saxberger is a subdued but particularly rich one for Dafoe, himself a veteran of the downtown arts scene..” – Sheri Linden, The Hollywood Reporter
Run time is 1 hour and 36 minutes. NR.
Showtimes: Thursday, September 10, 7 pm; Friday, September 11, 7 pm; and Saturday, September 10, 1 pm.
Purchase tickets online: $14.64 general admission, $12.51 senior/student with ID, $11.44 for WCUW members (processing fees included).

The Jukebox of Americana host Troy Tyree speaks with Alistair Moock
Friday, Sept. 11th (9/11)
at 12 Noon
Alistair Moock, Regie Gibson and Kemp Harris present Red, White, Black, & Blues - The Rants, Chants, & Coos of 3 Literary-Musicians Friday evening "9/11" at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA.
The world is an especially tough place right now, and we all need a space where we can slow down, reflect, and connect. Come join Inaugural Poet Laureate of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Regie Gibson, award-winning singer-songwriter-storyteller Kemp Harris, and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Alastair Moock for a passionate and poignant evening of stories, spoken word poetry, music and song. This will be a thoughtful, bluesy, funky, jazzy, folky, touching exploration into what it means to live, laugh, and love as an American and as a human being.
Alastair Moock is an award-winning singer-songwriter, GRAMMY-nominated family musician, social justice and songwriting educator for all ages, and co-founder of The Opening Doors Project, an antiracist music organization. The Boston Globe calls him “one of the town’s best and most adventurous songwriters” and The Washington Post says “every song is a gem.”

Sunday, September 13: Chet Williamson’s Harmonica Jazz Quartet at the FrontRoom
Chet Williamson’s 40-plus-year career as a harmonica player has taken him from the streets of the Great Brook Valley Housing Projects of Worcester, MA to memorable performances around the world.
Reflecting his ability to play a wide variety of musical styles, Williamson has shared stages with many of the world’s most popular and finest musicians, including Sleepy LaBeef, Joan Osborne and Duke Levine.
As a teen, Williamson played blues after hearing Paul Butterfield’s first album. He also had the good fortune to sit right next to Babe Pino — a local phenom – all through junior and senior high school. At 15, Williamson took part in regular weekly jam sessions at the Lincoln Neighborhood Center and hooked Pino up with a gig at Poli’s, which later became the Ale ‘n Bun. There Pino led a band that featured pianist David Maxwell and guitarist Bob Margolin.
Williamson counts his experience sitting in with saxophonist Howie Jefferson, drummer Reggie Walley and organist Al Arsenault at the Kitty Kat as a highlight of his early development.
This will be a special show, with an all-original program featuring Jerry Sabatini, Mitch Seidman, Pamela Hines, Bill McGillivray and Jerry Wilfong. Save the date and plan on a cool jazz experience in a great listening space!
Showtime: Sunday, September 13, 5:00 pm. Doors open at 4:30 pm. Tickets $20 cash or Venmo at the door. Light refreshments will be served.
The WCUW FrontRoom is located at 910 Main St., Worcester, MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.
