ART in the WCUW Harold Stevens Gallery

Saturday, September 5, thru Monday, October 5: Sidelights

The Harold Stevens Gallery presents “ Sidelights: An Immersive Multimedia Installation” by Matthew Wasser.

What happens when a painting becomes a portal—and the viewer becomes part of the artwork?

In Sidelights, Worcester multimedia artist Matthew Wasser transforms the Harold Stevens Gallery into an immersive environment where projection, light, sound, and movement converge to blur the boundaries between physical and virtual space. The installation combines multiple projectors, interactive video technology, ambient sound, and subtle recitations from Shakespeare to create a space that is both contemplative and playful. Visitors are encouraged to interact and explore the possibilities in this evolving visual landscape.

Wasser is an internationally known video and media artist. His work includes, lighting design for theatre, dance, and opera productions across the United States and abroad. A recent MFA graduate from Clark

University/Becker School of Design and Technology and is presently employed at the Boston Museum of Science.

See a sample video.

Made possible in part through a grant from the Worcester Cultural Coalition.

Gallery hours: Mondays noon to 3 pm; Wednesdays 2 to 4 pm; Thursdays 11 am to 3 pm; Fridays 11 am to 4 pm; Saturdays 8:30 am to 12:30 pm; or by appointment. Closed Labor Day, September 7. Free to all!

The Harold Stevens Gallery is located inside WCUW, 910 Main Street, Worcester, MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

Film in the WCUW FrontRoom
Presented by Cinema Worcester

Thursday, September 17: Cinema Worcester at the FrontRoom Presents “The Dads”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW FrontRoom presents “The Dads”, a short film by Luchina Fisher. GLAD Law, MTPC, and Transhealth will be joining us to present this film and conduct a Q&A to follow.

Inspired by the Emmy®-Award-winning NETFLIX short film The Dads feature documentary follows fathers across the U.S. building a nascent movement to support their trans and gender expansive kids over the course of a politically tumultuous year. As anti-trans legislation and hostility escalate in the United States, the dads are forced to make an impossible choice: stay and fight or flee the country

Filmed over the course of a year—from quiet retreats in rural Maine and Minnesota to protests, family milestones, a pivotal U.S. Supreme Court decision, and the collapse of gender-affirming care for youth—the film captures a moment of national reckoning with striking intimacy.

“A big bear hug of a film.” – The Hollywood Reporter

“Vulnerable and honest.” – RogerEbert.com

Run time is 11 minutes. PG-13 (brief strong language). Q&A session will follow.

Showtime: Thursday, September 17.

Purchase tickets online: $14.64 general admission, $12.51 senior/student with ID, $11.44 for WCUW members (processing fees included).

Tickets at the door: $12 general admission, $10 senior/student with ID, $9 for WCUW members.

Film in the WCUW FrontRoom
Presented by Cinema Worcester

Friday, September 18, thru Sunday, September 20: Cinema Worcester at the FrontRoom Presents “Tony”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW FrontRoom presents “Tony”, a film by Matthew Johnson.

A 19-year-old Anthony Bourdain travels to Provincetown and stumbles into the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen, setting off a summer that will shape the course of his life.

Exploring how the iconic Anthony Bourdain came to be with a scrappy coming-of-age story that’s equal parts sweet and tart, Tony is a splendid tribute to mentorship, complete with a standout performance by Antonio Banderas.

“On 1970s Cape Cod, a young Anthony Bourdain chases love and finds his future in this rambunctious, utterly charming little movie.” – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times

“A slender slice of a famous life, …. it has an idiosyncratic charm that fits the title character, without ever sanding down the abrasive side of a chronic liar or masking his insecurities.” – The Hollywood Reporter

Run time is 1 hour and 46 minutes. R (pervasive language | drug use | sexual content/nudity).

Showtimes: Friday, September 18, 7 pm; Saturday, September 19, 1 pm; and Sunday, September 20, 1 pm.

Purchase tickets online: $14.64 general admission, $12.51 senior/student with ID, $11.44 for WCUW members (processing fees included).

LIVE in the FrontRoom

Saturday, September 19: Pat Halpin & the 351s at the FrontRoom

Harmonica powerhouse Patrick Halpin has been a fixture of the New England blues scene since the early 1990s.

After years of performing with respected regional acts and sharing the stage with blues legends, he formed Pat Halpin & the 351s—a band built on raw energy, deep grooves, and American roots music.

Named after the legendary Ford 351 Cleveland engine, the 351s channel classic Chicago blues into rock ’n’ roll, rockabilly, swing, Tex-Mex, country, and timeless roots sounds. The result is a high-octane, dance-floor-driven show delivered by a tight four-piece lineup of seasoned musicians.

Pat Halpin & the 351s bring the heart and soul of rock ’n’ roll to every stage

Read more about them here.

Showtime: Saturday, September 19, 7 pm. Doors open at 6:30. Tickets $20 cash or Venmo at the door. Light refreshments will be served.

Sunday, September 20 ~ 1 PM: Cinema Worcester at the FrontRoom Presents “Tony”

Tickets at the door: $12 general admission, $10 senior/student with ID, $9 for WCUW members.

The WCUW FrontRoom is located at 910 Main St., Worcester, MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.
