Saturday, September 5, thru Monday, October 5: Sidelights

The Harold Stevens Gallery presents “ Sidelights: An Immersive Multimedia Installation” by Matthew Wasser.

What happens when a painting becomes a portal—and the viewer becomes part of the artwork?

In Sidelights, Worcester multimedia artist Matthew Wasser transforms the Harold Stevens Gallery into an immersive environment where projection, light, sound, and movement converge to blur the boundaries between physical and virtual space. The installation combines multiple projectors, interactive video technology, ambient sound, and subtle recitations from Shakespeare to create a space that is both contemplative and playful. Visitors are encouraged to interact and explore the possibilities in this evolving visual landscape.

Wasser is an internationally known video and media artist. His work includes, lighting design for theatre, dance, and opera productions across the United States and abroad. A recent MFA graduate from Clark

University/Becker School of Design and Technology and is presently employed at the Boston Museum of Science.

Thursday, September 24: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “Mouse”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents “Mouse”, a film by Kenny Riches. Director Riches will attend to discuss the movie and answer your questions.

Socially awkward, living in the garage of his Japanese mother’s house, and not quite fitting in with the rest of Salt Lake City, Denny commits minor thefts — swiping bikes, car break-ins but not robberies — to pass the time and give himself a quiet kick.

He’s also lonely, so an ad for a pen pal service catches his eye.

Unfortunately, on the other end of the letters is a con artist couple. As they exchange correspondences, both sides pretend to be people they’re not, and very quickly, Denny’s loneliness and desperation collide into a dark climax where petty crime can quickly bleed into hard-time territory.

You know the story: In this 1916 American silent romantic fantasy film, seven dwarfs come to the aid of Snow White after evil Queen Brangomar tries to poison her.

The Racky Thomas Band returns to the FrontRoom!

The Racky Thomas Band hails from Boston, Massachusetts but plays the blues as though they came right out of postwar Chicago or the Mississippi delta. Thomas formed in 1995 and has been performing throughout the northeast to enthusiastic audiences ever since. With energy and passion akin to that of a Southern snake charmer revivalist, they continue to earn rave reviews from critics and music enthusiasts alike.

Thomas draws from a wide range of influences to come up with a musical ‘gumbo’ of blues, gospel, country blues, and boogie, Racky Thomas and his bandmates have been torch-bearers of the blues for nearly three decades and are known for their diverse influences within the blues idiom and jubilant, uplifting live performances.
