Sunday, July 13 to Wednesday, August 20: “Emerging Artists”
The Harold Stevens Gallery at WCUW presents Emerging Artists, featuring four innovative emerging artists exploring themes of identity, memory, privilege and perception through diverse artistic practices.
The exhibition highlights:
Colby Casacca, whose paintings and sculptures explore queer identity and challenge societal expectations of masculinity through intimate and thought-provoking imagery.
Wynne Dromey, a recent graduate of Clark University, whose textured work celebrates confidence, individuality, and self-love by incorporating recycled materials such as handbags, handmade paper, receipts, dried paint, and plastic bags.
Taylor Green, a multidisciplinary artist focusing on psychological reflection, female perspectives, and personal memory through narrative-rich paintings using perspective, geometry, and symbolism.
Angela Risotti, who uses heliographic printing and photography to investigate memory and time, creating layered and abstracted images that encourage presence and reflection.
Gallery hours: Mondays noon to 3 pm; Wednesdays 2 to 4 pm; Thursdays 1 to 3 pm; Fridays 11 am to 2 pm; or by appointment. Free to all!
The opening reception is on Sunday, July 13, 4 to 6 pm. It is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
The Harold Stevens Gallery is located inside WCUW, 910 Main Street, Worcester, MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

Thursday, July 31 and Friday, August 1: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “In the Mood for Love “
Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents the 25th Anniversary screening of “In the Mood for Love “, a film by Wong Kar Wai.
Hong Kong, 1962: Chow Mo-Wan (Tony Leung Chiu Wai) and Su Li-Zhen (Maggie Cheung Man Yuk) move into neighboring apartments on the same day. Their encounters are formal and polite—until a discovery about their spouses creates an intimate bond between them. At once delicately mannered and visually extravagant, Wong Kar Wai’s In the Mood for Love is a masterful evocation of romantic longing and fleeting moments. With its aching soundtrack and exquisitely abstract cinematography by Christopher Doyle and Mark Lee Ping Bing, this film has been a major stylistic influence on the past twenty-five years of cinema.
In the Mood for Love 2001 was innitially conceived as one third of a triptych about food, In the Mood for Love was expanded into a stand-alone feature that won immediate recognition as a contemporary classic. Another third—intended as the “dessert,” as Wong Kar Wai has put it—was, until now, only screened during his masterclass at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival.
This 4K digital restoration was undertaken from the 35 mm original camera negative, and is now available in wide release for the first time, In the Mood for Love 2001 demonstrates the director’s elegant ability to generate palpable atmosphere and striking characterizations on a miniature canvas—with In the Mood for Love stars Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Maggie Cheung Man Yuk once again providing the sizzling chemistry—evoking the mystery of transient, unexpected connections in the modern city through his inimitable romantic touch.
Run time is 1 hour 38 minutes. PG. In Cantonese and Shanghainese with English subtitles.
Showtimes: Thursday, July 31, 7 pm and Friday, August 1, 7 pm.
Tickets $13.58 general admission, $11.44 senior/student with ID, $10.38 for WCUW members (processing fees included). Purchase tickets online.
The WCUW Frontroom is located at 910 Main St., Worcester MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

and Paul Lauzon
Dance Party Weekend in the WCUW Front Room
Saturday, August 23rd, and Sunday, August 24th
Both shows will take place in the
WCUW Front Room at 910 Main Street, Worcester, MA.
Free parking across the street.
There’s no cover charge for either show, but your
Goodwill Donation At The Door "WILL BE MATCHED 100%
by an anonymous donor UNTIL WE REACH $10,000
-
WCUW is presenting two huge dance party events, back-to-back, not only to help raise summer funds, but also to celebrate two legendary DJs who graced the airwaves of WCUW for many years! That would be Paul Lauzon on air from 1999 to 2025 and Milton Cordiero, who was on air from 1984 to 2020!
It all starts with a SOCK HOP TRIBUTE in the WCUW FRONT ROOM on Saturday, August 23rd - Doors Open at 7 PM. This very special tribute is to honor the late Paul Lauzon, the DJ King of Rock' n' Roll! 1942 ~ 2025
The special Sock Hop celebration for Paul Lauzon will feature music from Paul's archive and will be spun by Paul's nephew, Eric, and son, John Lauzon. Additionally, there will be a musical performance by Elvis impersonator Dan Fontaine - https://newenglandelvis.com/bio. "Dan Fontaine is an award-winning Elvis Tribute Artist, and has competed at Images of The King and Ultimate Elvis festivals/competitions nationally and internationally."
Sock Hop to Lindy Hop!
And the Dance Party continues on Sunday, August 24th at 5 PM with Philadelphia-based April Mae & the June Bugs, who bring a high-energy blend of Lindy Hop, Swing, Boogie Woogie, and Rockabilly - in tribute to former WCUW Oldies DJ Milton Cordiero (1943–2022) ~ https://aprilmaeandthejunebugs.com/
Milton Cordiero - 1943 – 2022
Also known as Uncle Milty, Milton was the resident authority on Doo Wop; his ardor for Doo Wop reflected through both the wide range of material he played for listeners and his rapport with his audience. Cordiero could be counted on to dig into his record library for all-time gems like ''Yakety Yak," "Charlie Brown" or "Poison Ivy," by The Coasters or "Blue Moon" by The Marcels. Cordiero's reverence for the tracks and artists he selected for airtime was as constant as the baseball cap he wore behind the microphone.
All monies raised on behalf of these events, as well as our on-air campaign starting August 4th, will be matched up to $10,000 by an anonymous donor. Admission to the concerts is a goodwill donation. If you won't be able to attend either event, but would still like to help, please visit www.wcuw.org and donate via the Big Green Button!
Many thanks to author Rodney Lee for his insights on Paul Lauzon and Milton Cordiero. And a special thanks to our anonymous donor!

Thursday, August 7 thru Sunday, August 10: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “Folktales”
Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents “Folktales”, a film by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady.
In Oscar®-nominated filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady’s life-affirming documentary, teenagers converge at a traditional folk high school in Arctic Norway where they must rely on only themselves, one another, and a loyal pack of sled dogs as they all grow in unexpected directions.
In Norse mythology, the three “Norns” are powerful deities who weave the threads of fate and shape humans’ futures. Today, Pasvik Folk High School in northern Norway aims to produce a similar life-changing effect on its students.
Folktales tells the timely and heartwarming story of teenagers who choose to spend an unconventional “gap year” learning to dog sled and survive the Arctic wilderness, in hopes of finding connection and meaning in the modern world. Guided by patient teachers and a yard full of heroic Alaskan huskies, they discover their own potential and develop deep relationships with the land, animals and humans around them.
Through intimate verité storytelling and exhilarating cinematography, Ewing and Grady examine humans on the cusp of adulthood, finding themselves at the edge of the world.
“Emotionally impactful and gorgeously shot” IndieWire
Run time is 1 hour 46 minutes. NR.
Showtimes: Thursday, August 7, 7 pm; Friday, August 8, 7 pm; Saturday, August 9, 1 pm; and Sunday, August 10, 1 pm.
