Thursday, June 5 thru Sunday, June 8: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life”
Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life”, a film by Laura Piani.
Agathe, hopelessly clumsy yet charming and full of contradictions, finds herself in desperate singlehood. Her dream is to experience love akin to a Jane Austen novel and her ultimate aspiration is to become a writer. Instead, she spends her days selling books in the legendary British Bookshop, Shakespeare & Co, in Paris. Invited to the Jane Austen Writers’ Residency in England, she must confront her insecurities to finally fulfill her ambition of becoming a novelist and put an end to wasting her sentimental life.
“By the end, romance in the abstract becomes something much more real — and we can’t help but fall for all these characters ourselves.” New York Magazine
Run time is 1 hour 34 minutes. R (Some Sexual Content | Nudity | Language). Languages: French, English
Showtimes: Thursday, June 5, 7 pm; Friday, June 6, 7 pm; Saturday, June 7, 2 pm; and Sunday, June 8, 1 pm.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of one of WCUW’s most cherished programmers, Paul Lauzon.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the countless fans who have tuned in week after week since the late ‘90s, savoring the delightful mix of rock and doo-wop that he so passionately curated. His legacy resonates not only through the airwaves but also within our community, reminding us of the vibrant local culture we strive to celebrate.
We invite you to honor his memory by streaming the special tribute show, a heartfelt homage to the King of Worcester Rock n’ Roll, that his family presented on his last scheduled show.
Listen to this special tribute show until June 2nd here: https://spinitron.com/WCUW/pl/20680636/The-Tuesday-Jukebox

Saturday, May 17 to Monday, June 30: “My Kind of Blues” by by photographer Tom Hazeltine at the Harold Stevens Gallery
My Kind of Blues, a compelling new photography exhibition by Tom Hazeltine, offers a rare glimpse into Boston’s vibrant blues scene through the lens of a lifelong music lover. This is the artist’s first solo showing of his images, especially the autographed ones, in an in-person exhibition format.
Spanning over four decades, My Kind of Blues features a rich collection of live performance photography of blues musicians in the Greater Boston area.
What began in the 1970s with a Polaroid camera and an open mind grew into a lifelong passion and visual archive. Hazeltine, initially a hard rock fan, was introduced to the blues by a close friend who urged him to “go right to the source.” That advice sparked countless nights at iconic small venues like The Speakeasy, where Hazeltine fell in love with the music, the atmosphere, and the people behind it.

Sunday, June 8: Peter Hi-Fi Ward with Doug James and Friends Blues Benefit at the Frontroom
Join us for a top notch blues show with Peter Hi-Fi Ward, Doug James, and friends, in a special performance benefiting WCUW!
Peter “Hi-Fi” Ward grew up in Lewiston, Maine, and later moved to Boston, where he worked in various bands and sat in with Sugar Ray & the Bluetones, who then featured Ronnie Earl on guitar and Peter’s brother Mudcat on bass. He backed artists such as Jimmy Rogers, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, Sunnyland Slim and Lowell Fulson when they appeared locally.
In New York, Peter was honored when Otis Rush, after performing together, told him he played chords “like an old man.” In the 1980s, Peter toured with the Legendary Blues Band whose members — Joe Willie “Pinetop” Perkins, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Calvin “Fuzz” Jones and Jerry Portnoy — had backed the great Muddy Waters. The experience reinforced in Peter the desire to play blues in a conversational, unhurried and to-the-point way.
Doug James is a sax musician, songwriter, arranger, record producer and audio engineer. In a career spanning 50 years, James has played on many albums, including those recorded by Roomful of Blues, Duke Robillard, Jimmie Vaughan, Joe Louis Walker, Colin James, Pat Benatar, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and many others. In addition, James has released four albums bearing his name.

Providence, Hartford, and Worcester have recently been visited by the "Hell on Wheels" chicken truck, whose next stop is Littleton, NH (June 6th) and Burlington, VT (June 9th). "Hell on Wheels" chicken truck of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has visited more than 140 cities since 2022. (The large truck is plastered with images of chickens bound for slaughter, and it blares the sounds of chickens in distress as well as a subliminal message telling people to "go vegan".) Wendy Fernandez, an international grassroots campaigner with PETA, joins us for a Vegan Nation interview on June 10, 2025.

Thursday, June 12: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “Paris is Burning”
Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents a Pride Month screening of “Paris is Burning”, a film by Jennie Livingston.
This documentary focuses on drag queens living in New York City and their “house” culture, which provides a sense of community and support for the flamboyant and often socially shunned performers. Groups from each house compete in elaborate balls that take cues from the world of fashion. Also touching on issues of racism and poverty, the film features interviews with a number of renowned drag queens, including Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija and Dorian Corey.
