Our Fall Fund Drive is underway! We have a modest $10,000 goal, and $5,000 of that will be matched!

As we're not doing a snail-mail campaign, we hope you'll consider donating directly through our website.

What other town/city offers you a movie theater, a concert venue, an art gallery, and the ReBob Record Shop, plus a radio station, all under one roof? And, sends out a weekly e-note telling you where else you can go now through Wednesday, Nov. 26th, to find cool locally produced music!

We've been doing the 91.3 FM radio part "100% FREE" of any federal monies since 1980. Yes, in 1979, we received a federal grant to cut ties with Clark University (CU), move off campus, and build out our studios at 910 Main Street, where we've called home since 1980!

Through all this time, it's been you keeping the vibes on the airwaves! Your support via wcuw.org/donate ensures this extraordinary legacy keeps moving into the future with no reliance on federal $$ or influence! And thank you for that!

WCUW ~ Music ~ Art ~ Film ~ Radio

Saturday, November 1, thru Friday, November 28: Creatures of Worcester 5

The Harold Stevens Gallery at WCUW presents Creatures of Worcester 5.

Imagine that there are colorful creatures living among us as we go about our daily lives – passing us on the street as we walk to work in the morning, stopping to sniff a flower in Elm Park, or crowd surfing over our heads at a concert. Creatures that don’t look like us but are just like us – looking to have a great time living this thing called life.

Peer into the minds of local artists as they give you their interpretations of what this might look like. The walls of The Harold Stevens Gallery at WCUW will come alive with visions into this imaginative world we share with the Creatures of Worcester.

Photography by Lex Graziano. The Creatures are by Brian J Hoffman, Dead Rabbits, Taylor Pritts, Iriiises, Jordan Gagner, Almighty Bea, Pretty Kitty Press, Emma Rhiannon, Savage, Chris Michelotti, Kay Lee, and Son.

Gallery hours: Mondays noon to 3 pm; Wednesdays 2 to 4 pm; Thursdays 1 to 3 pm; Fridays 11 am to 2 pm; or by appointment. Free to all!

The Harold Stevens Gallery is located inside WCUW, 910 Main Street, Worcester, MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street or on the street.

“…You know how in marriage they say “for better or for worse”? I think, in terms of my life, I have entered the “for worse” part, and it happened so quietly I didn’t even recognize it.”

Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon tells the story of legendary lyricist Lorenz Hart bravely facing the future as his professional and private life unravels at the opening night party for his former partner’s hit show , Oklahoma!

By the time this night is over, Hart will have confronted both a world that no longer values his talent and the seeming impossibility of love.

Run time is 1 hour and 40 minutes. R (language | sexual references).

Showtimes: Thursday, November 20, 7 pm; Friday, November 21, 7 pm; Saturday, November 22, 1 pm; and Sunday, November 23, 1 pm.

Saturday, November 22: Throwing Stones at the Frontroom

Throwing Stones comes to the Frontroom, brought to you by WCUW’s “The Drifter”.

Throwing Stones was formed in late 2023 and spent nearly a year learning and refining their repertoire. The idea was simple: pay tribute to the two greatest touring acts of all time, The Rolling Stones and Grateful Dead.

These songs were not meant to be copied, but reinterpreted on a night-to-night basis. Sound-wise, the band landed in the middle of both acts: Rolling Stones songs became longer and more jam-focused, Dead tunes often grew louder and more raucous.

Throwing Stones began playing venues and festivals throughout New England starting in November 2024 and were an immediate hit among local fans of both bands. They have been filling dance floors and festival fields with their unique blend of booty-shaking groves and face-melting explorations.

Throwing Stones is Derek Varnum on guitar and vocals, Mike Prisby on guitar and vocals, Ron Szczepaniak on bass, Mike Higgins on keys, synth, and backing vocals, Charlie Shimkus on drums, and Mike Harnois on percussion and harmonica.

Showtime: Saturday, November 22, 7:00 pm. Doors open at 6:30. Tickets $20 cash or Venmo at the door.

The WCUW Frontroom is located at 910 Main St., Worcester MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

Wednesday, November 26: Envy, with Crash The Net opening, at the Frontroom

Envy returns to Worcester for a special Thanksgiving Eve show at The WCUW Frontroom. Opening up the night will be special guests Crash The Net.

Envy is an alternative rock band from Charlton, Massachusetts. Comprising three members, they draw significant inspiration from the distinctive sounds of early 2000s emo and 1990s alternative rock. Their passion for music is evident in their dedication to songwriting and creating a unique sound. The band is driven by a shared love for live music and the joy of performing it. If you like Joyce Manor, Weezer, and Charmer – check out this emerging talent.

After playing some shows around Massachusetts and Connecticut, and spending some time in the studio recording, Envy is ready to play a two-set night to their friends and home crowd in Worcester! Their first set will be an MTV Unplugged-style acoustic set, followed by their highly-energetic electric set.

Opening for Envy will be Crash The Net, a pop punk power trio from southern New Hampshire made up of childhood friends. Drawing inspiration from bands like Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Four Year Strong and A Day to Remember, their sound blends early 2000s punk rock energy with melodic emotion and metal-edged grit. Crash The Net delivers high-energy songs packed with heart and authenticity.

Showtime: Wednesday, November 26, 7 pm. Doors open at 6:30. Advance tickets $11.38 (including fees). $15 cash or Venmo at the door.

The WCUW Frontroom is located at 910 Main St., Worcester MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?

Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

Saturday, November 29: Paul Rishell and Annie Raines at the Frontroom

For 31 years Paul Rishell and Annie Raines have been hailed as one of the world’s best blues duos. They now bring their music to the Frontroom.

Paul and Annie have recorded 6 albums together including the W.C. Handy Award-winning Moving to the Country (2000), and received numerous award nominations from the Blues Foundation. They have performed and recorded with John Sebastian, Susan Tedeschi, Pinetop Perkins and Rory Block.

They have opened for Ray Charles, Dr. John, and Little Feat, and performed on international radio and TV shows including Late Night with Conan O’Brien and A Prairie Home Companion. Find out more about these artists here.

“While their guitar, harmonica, and vocals are roiling, muscular, and masterful, their shows are down home- friendly and fun-loving.” – Scott Alarik, Boston Globe

“…Rishell is a master of country/blues styles, particularly slide played on a National steel guitar. Raines, a rare female ace blues harmonica blower, shows that she is as strong an acoustic country harp accompanist as she is a harder-edged, electrified Chicago-style lead player à la the great Little Walter…” –Billboard
