On Wednesday, October 29th, WCUW held its 2025 annual membership meeting—thank you to the 70-plus folks who attended.

Many thanks were given to all who have helped move WCUW forward. A special Thank You was given to long-time "Sounds of Scotia" host and designer of the majority of the artistic elements you see for our radio programs and website, Barry Sullivan.

Outgoing Executive Director Troy Tyree also acknowledged Barry as the 3rd father of WCUW for his efforts to usher WCUW 91.3 FM / www.wcuw.org into the digital age. Dr. Robert Goddard founded the station under the call letters CUW and secured an AM frequency. John Lavine established the FM frequency 91.3 FM, and Barry Sullivan worked hard to make it visually appealing and accessible online.

Thank you, Barry Sullivan! You will live forever as part of our glass wall of supporters!

Thursday, October 30 and Friday, October 31: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “Good Boy”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents “Good Boy”, a film by Ben Leonberg.

Our canine hero, Indy, finds himself on a new adventure with his human owner and best friend Todd, leaving city life for a long-vacant family home in the country.

From the start, two things are abundantly clear: Indy is wary of the creepy old house, and his affection for Todd is unwavering. After moving in, Indy is immediately vexed by empty corners, tracks an invisible presence only he can see, perceives phantasmagoric warnings from a long-dead dog, and is haunted by visions of the previous occupant’s grim death.

When Todd begins succumbing to the dark forces swirling around the house, Indy must battle a malevolence intent on dragging his beloved Todd into the afterlife.

“Good Boy is a refreshing take on the horror genre, blending supernatural elements from a “good boy’s” perspective..” – The Hollywood Outsider

Run time is 1 hour and 13 minutes. PG-13 (Bloody images | terror | strong language).

Showtimes: Thursday, October 30, 7 pm, and Friday, October 31, 7 pm.

Tickets $13.58 general admission, $11.44 senior/student with ID, $10.38 for WCUW members (processing fees included). Purchase tickets online.

Saturday, November 1: Creatures of Worcester 5

The Harold Stevens Gallery at WCUW presents Creatures of Worcester 5.

Imagine that there are colorful creatures living among us as we go about our daily lives – passing us on the street as we walk to work in the morning, stopping to sniff a flower in Elm Park, or crowd surfing over our heads at a concert. Creatures that don’t look like us but are just like us – looking to have a great time living this thing called life.

Peer into the minds of local artists as they give you their interpretations of what this might look like. The walls of The Harold Stevens Gallery at WCUW will come alive with visions into this imaginative world we share with the Creatures of Worcester.

Photography by Lex Graziano. The Creatures are by Brian J Hoffman, Dead Rabbits, Taylor Pritts, Iriiises, Jordan Gagner, Almighty Bea, Pretty Kitty Press, Emma Rhiannon, Savage, Chris Michelotti, Kay Lee, and Son.

DJ Wiggly Noodles (known around Worcester for spinning disco, 80’s new-wave, and club pop), will, for Creatures of Worcester, be blasting some electronic nostalgia into your ears with all the best indie sleaze bangers of the late 00’s / early 2010’s.

The opening reception starts at 5 pm. Music by DJ Wiggly Noodles is from 6 to 8 pm, with a $10 cover ( cash at door). Light refreshments will be served.

Gallery hours: Mondays noon to 3 pm; Wednesdays 2 to 4 pm; Thursdays 1 to 3 pm; Fridays 11 am to 2 pm; or by appointment. Free to all!

The Harold Stevens Gallery is located inside WCUW, 910 Main Street, Worcester, MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

Listen to Gail Hunt, host of Art on the Air, talk with the artist and event organizer, Chris Michelotti. Originally aired October 30, 2025.

Saturday, November 1: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “Age Group Winner”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents “Age Group Winner”, a film by Alexandra Helgerson.

In 1980 Jay Helgerson shocked the world, becoming the first person to run a marathon a week for a year – each race completed in under three hours.

For the last ten years, his daughter, filmmaker Alexandra Helgerson, followed him with a camera in order to understand the eccentric man who raised her.

What she gets are his projected anxieties, his struggles with physical age and emotional distress, all while he endlessly trains for the Boston Marathon. But as Jay trains, the film is nearly derailed by Alexandra’s encounter with a life-threatening illness.

Ultimately, Age Group Winner is an affirmation of the will to live.

Run time is 1 hour and 23 minutes. NR.

Showtimes: Saturday, November 1, 1 pm.

Tickets $13.58 general admission, $11.44 senior/student with ID, $10.38 for WCUW members (processing fees included). Purchase tickets online.

Thursday, November 6 thru Sunday, November 9: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You”, a film by Mary Bronstein.

With her life crashing down around her, Linda (Rose Byrne) attempts to navigate her child’s mysterious illness, her absent husband, a missing person, and an increasingly hostile relationship with her therapist.

“This fever dream immersion into parental stress connects with thunderous force thanks to Rose Byrne’s gutsy star turn and director Mary Bronstein’s uncompromising vision.” – Rotten Tomatoes (Certified Fresh)

Run time is 1 hour and 53 minutes. R (language | some drug use | bloody images).

Showtimes: Thursday, November 6, 7 pm; Friday, November 7, 7 pm; Saturday November 8, 1 pm; and Sunday, November 9, 1 pm.

Tickets $13.58 general admission, $11.44 senior/student with ID, $10.38 for WCUW members (processing fees included). Purchase tickets online.

The WCUW Frontroom is located at 910 Main St., Worcester MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

Saturday, November 8: Johnny Blue Horn & the Caretakers at the Frontroom

Johnny Blue Horn is a musician known for his soulful and eclectic sound, which blends elements of blues, jazz, rock and R&B. His vocal style has been compared to artists like Van Morrison, Eric Clapton and Bruce Springsteen, and his music often has a rootsy Americana feel to it.

With his band the Caretakers, he’s also known for his high-energy live performances and his strong connection with the audience. Joining Johnny is Bobby Gus on guitar, Jim Heffernan on keys, Sven Larson on bass and Chris Anzalone on drums.

If you haven’t yet checked out Johnny Blue Horn & The Caretakers, you would be doing yourself a real favor to come down to this show. Johnny and his group put out a beauty of a sound.
