Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “A Different Man”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW FRONTROOM presents “A Different Man“, a film by Aaron Schimberg.

A daringly funny satire about disability and the nuance of lived experience that never tries to tick a box or make the audience feel comfort
Aspiring actor Edward undergoes a radical medical procedure to drastically transform his appearance. But his new dream face quickly turns into a nightmare, as he loses out on the role he was born to play and becomes obsessed with reclaiming what was lost.
“Much like life, once you get comfortable in the rhythm of A Different Man, Schimberg shoves you out of your seat and forces you to question what you thought you knew about yourself and those sitting next to you” – Paste Magazine.

Run time is 1 hour 52 minutes. Rated R (Sexual Content|Language|Graphic Nudity|Some Violent Content).

Showtimes: Saturday, December 7, 1 pm, and Sunday, December 8, 1 pm. Tickets $8-$11. Purchase tickets online..

November 27 to December 14 Now Showing at The Harold Stevens Gallery: Living Womb by Annabelle Edwards-Stoll

Artist Annabelle Edwards-Stoll is a sculpturist finishing their senior year at Clark University. This exhibit, Living Womb, is an exploration of reproductive rights. Through their textile and sculpture work, the Harold Stevens Gallery is transformed into a Womb where visitors are encouraged to respectfully interact with the work and converse with one another about difficult topics. This exhibit also features a resource wall with donations from Project Priceless, Planned Parenthood, and Clark University’s Reproductive Access Club.

Three supporting artists from Clark University are also featured in the show: painter, Liz Cowart, photographer and filmmaker, Gyani Pradhan Wong Ah Sui, and poet Ketshaly Philome.

Edwards-Stoll encourages all visitors of the Living Womb to,“Open the softer parts of yourself. Be vulnerable. Be respectful. Be yourself and communicate. Acknowledge all the parts that make you whole, all the parts that brought you here.”

Living Womb by Annabelle Edwards-Stoll is on view from November 27 to December 14.

Opening reception for this immersive experience is on Saturday, December 7 from 4 to 6pm and will feature an open mic.

Gallery hours: Mondays 12 to 3pm; Wednesdays 2 to 4 pm; Thursdays 1 to 5 pm; Fridays 11 to 2 pm; Saturdays 11 to 1 pm; or by appointment. Free to all!

Thursday, December 12 and Friday, December 13: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “Memoir of a Snail”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents “Memoir of a Snail“, a film by Adam Elliot.

This stop motion odyssey of hope triumphing over life’s despair with humanity to spare makes Memoir of a Snail a deft, heartfelt tale.
In 1970s Australia, Grace’s life is troubled by misfortune and loss. After their mother dies during pregnancy, she and her twin brother, Gilbert, are raised by their paraplegic-alcoholic former juggler father, Percy. Despite a life filled with love, tragedy strikes anew when Percy passes away in his sleep. The siblings are forcibly separated and thrust into separate homes. Gilbert finds himself in the care of a cruel evangelical family, while Grace, grappling with intense loneliness, gradually withdraws into her shell, much like the snails she adopts. As the years pass, and despite new disappointments and sorrows, a glimmer of hope emerges when she strikes up an enduring friendship with an elderly eccentric woman called Pinky.

Run time is 1 hour 34 minutes. Rated R (Nudity|Some Violent Content|Sexual Content).

Showtimes: Thursday, December 12, 7 pm, and Friday, December 13, 7 pm. Tickets $8-$11. Purchase tickets online..
