The WDA Board of Directors recently dedicated a full day to Strategic Planning for the future of the association. This productive session focused on enhancing member benefits, advocating for the denturist profession, and expanding public awareness of our work. Key areas discussed included:

• Membership & Marketing: Welcoming new members, offering networking opportunities, and growing the PAC.
• Lobbying Efforts: Increasing public awareness and strengthening connections with legislators and government agencies.
• Committees: Developing initiatives through Legislative, Higher Education, Membership, CE, and Marketing Committees to benefit members and promote the field of denturism.

The WDA recently had the privilege of participating in a job fair at the Tacoma Convention Center. This event brought together high school students eager to explore various career paths, and we were thrilled to introduce them to the rewarding profession of denturism.

Our team shared insights about what it means to be a Denturist and highlighted the vital role Denturists play in oral healthcare. We encouraged students to consider this fulfilling career and provided information on how to get started. Attendees were directed to reach out to Bates Technical College or American Denturist College (ADC) for details about enrolling in their Denturist programs.

The Washington Denturist Association (WDA) has been at the forefront of advocating for our profession, and our 2025 Lobby Day is an essential opportunity to continue pushing for the issues that matter most to denturists across the state. We need your participation to ensure the future of our profession in Washington!

Why Lobbying Matters for the WDA

Lobbying is a powerful tool that allows the WDA to protect and advance the interests of denturists in Washington. Over the years, we’ve seen significant legislative successes that have made a real impact on our profession:

• We successfully expanded the denturist scope of practice to include teeth whitening trays and snore guards.
• We fought to reinstate the Adult Dental Medicaid Program after it was cut, and we continue to be a core part of the team working to protect it.
• We passed a bill that mandates stand-alone dental insurance plans to include denturists in their networks.

But there’s more work to be done! We’re focused on reducing fees for denturists, continuing the expansion and improvement of Medicaid payments for those working with Medicaid patients, and advocating for increased state investment in training new denturists. These goals require the support of legislators who understand the value of denturists as essential dental providers.

The Department of Health is accepting applications to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Board of Denturists (board). To qualify, an applicant must have five years experience in the field of denturism or a related field. The Board of Denturists operates under legislative mandate to protect the health and safety of the public, and to promote the welfare of the state by regulating the competency and quality of health care providers under its jurisdiction.

We seek candidates with diverse backgrounds and provide geographic representation throughout the state. We recognize the value diversity brings in understanding and serving the people of Washington State.
