The Hernandez Center
for Adjunctive Cancer Care

WE ARE OPEN AND SERVING OUR PATIENTS' NEEDS -- SEE BELOW.

Pacific Naturopathic provides an essential health care service and we will remain open, with limited hours, to meet our patients' needs. For the present, we will be open for consultations and intravenous therapy from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  Our Tuesday and Thursday hours for pharmacy pick-up and other business will be from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  Please note that hours may change week-by-week as we all adjust to this situation. Please phone our office before stopping by.

We are closely monitoring guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and state and local health officials on COVID-19 to dispel the fantasy and fiction and bring you the most accurate information.  The situation is changing rapidly so we will continue to publish newsletters on a timely basis until the crisis passes.

Here are the measures we have instituted to protect you and ourselves:
  • Whenever possible, consultations will be done remotely by phone or via the easy-to-use program, ZOOM.  Patients do not have to know anything about the program to be able to use it.  We will send you a link and all you need to do is click on the link, follow the prompts to install ZOOM, and you will be face-to-face with Dr. Connie or Dr. Marcel.
  • If you need supplements, please phone us in advance. You will receive a call back to verify that we do have what you need, and when it will be available for pick-up. We will prepare the supplements for you and meet you at the door of the office.
  • Of course, IV patients must come into the office for their treatments. All patients coming to the office must immediately upon entering wash their hands via the hand washing protocol pictured above the bathroom sink.  Dr. Marcel will administer the IV with extreme care, and patient visits will be spaced to allow for social distancing.
  • If you do come in to the clinic, minimize those things you carry with you. The virus can live on things like re-usable grocery bags for up to three days.
  • If you have even a mild symptom (see symptom list in article in this newsletter) please stay home.
  • Our staff is wiping down all surfaces (doorknobs, faucets, counters, chair arms, shelves, etc.) every hour with a sanitizer.  The IV administration area is a special focus and is sanitized with a hospital disinfectant.
  • We are well stocked with antibacterial soap and disinfectants and have ordered additional quantities of supplies that may be needed.
  • We have reduced our hours to further limit possible spread through contact.
  • We require our staff to stay home, should they or any of their household members develop any symptoms described below.
Although in short supply, we do have a number of effective anti-viral and immune-boosting nutrients in office, and are ordering more. Further supplies are available from Fullscript, our online dispensary. Fullscript orders are delivered directly to your home. Click HERE to register for Fullscript.

If you would like help developing a preventive or treatment plan for you and your family, or if you have any other health concerns, please schedule a phone or ZOOM consult.

We also encourage you to look at last month's newsletter, which addressed specific remedies on addressing the virus.

May all beings be healthy and happy!

Dr. Connie, Dr. Marcel, Dr. Sage, Jane H. and your health care team  at Pacific Naturopathic and the Hernandez Center for Adjunctive Cancer Care

Yes, We're Open!
And... we offer remote appointments

We are not a place where large numbers of people gather and we do wipe down door handles, faucets  and other surfaces in common areas hourly and provide antibacterial hand washing soap and paper towels.

You  CAN practice social distancing here. You CAN pick up pharmacy, consult with Drs. Connie and Marcel remotely, receive intravenous Vitamin C and other intravenous treatments in person under strict aseptic protocols.

We do insist that you stay home, though, if your symptoms include undiagnosed fever, cough, difficulty breathing and fatigue.

If you have these symptoms, or are otherwise uncomfortable making your way to the office, know that we have long offered telephone, FaceTime and ZOOM consultations where you can conference with us from the safety and privacy of your own home. Phone 650-961-1660 to schedule your remote appointment.

If you need pharmacy that is not available from Fullscript ( CLICK HERE for direct access to Fullscript), but don't want to come in to the clinic, phone to make sure we have what you need, and office staff can bring your pharmacy to the door when you arrive to pick it up. Products that may be backordered on Fullscript, may be available in the office, and vice versa as dispensaries struggle to keep up with demand.

Be well!

COVID-19: The Coronavirus
Signs and Symptoms

When we were in medical school studying pathology, we at times thought we might have one or more of the hundreds of conditions we were studying.  A stage phenomenon that the entire class experienced.  Many of the symptoms described below can be attributed to allergies, colds, flus, sensitivities -- it is easy for the human mind to take the wrong path to understanding.

COVID-19 (coronavirus) may not show signs of infection for 5-9 days (incubation period).  Without testing, it is almost impossible to know a person is infected.  80% of those infected get better in 10 days. 20% need more attention and take longer to recover. Phone your health care provider if you know that you have been exposed to a person who has tested positive for the virus or if you experience:
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath (severe cases)
  • runny nose
  • sore throat
  • cough
  • fever
Most important: do not overreact.  Stay calm, continue preventive protocols and follow the advice of health care providers you trust.

High Doses of Vitamin C Used to Prevent and Treat Coronavirus Infections in China

There is an unusual paradox in medicine.   People tend to think that a complex approach to health problems works better than a simple approach.   Most believe that treatments offered at big medical institutions are more effective than those being offered at small independent clinics. In some cases, this is true. In the case of the Coronavirus, this simply is not true.

Small clinics like Pacific Naturopathic offer evidence-based approaches that are both safe and effective.  Plus -- you have almost no exposure to hospital borne infections.

A clinical trial is underway in Wuhan, China, where the Coronavirus is thought to have originated, using high dose intravenous Vitamin C in treatment regimens.  The preliminary results from a clinical study are extremely encouraging.

Intravenous Vitamin C Infusions
at Pacific Naturopathic

-- safe, easy and effective

Marcel Hernandez, ND

Why hesitate?
Protect yourself and your family now!

The reason most people give for not receiving a vitamin/mineral infusion is that needles are "yucky." Almost every single person who has come to Pacific Naturopathic for intravenous therapy prefaces their first infusion by saying they are averse to needles.  I tell them that if they had told me that they couldn't wait to get stuck by a needle I would have denied them service. But after a few infusions, most repeat patients just babble away as I am setting up to start the drip.  Many barely notice when the drip has started.  The procedure is surprisingly easy and much less uncomfortable than the imagination makes it.

We offer several IV therapy formulas at Pacific Naturopathic that contain therapeutic amounts of vitamin C:

* Vitamin C infusions in doses from 10 to 100 grams per IV.
* Vitamin C infusions in 2 to 50 grams per IV that also contain vitamins (all the B's) and minerals (selenium, zinc, magnesium, calcium, potassium) and trace minerals.

(Please note that a 30-minute safety and informational intake is required before beginning your IV program.  The intake and your first infusion can be held on the same day. Also, any infusion greater than 10 grams of vitamin C requires a special blood test called a G6PD as a safety measure.)

* Interested?  Please phone to schedule an appointment 650-961-1660.
* Want more information before scheduling?  Dr. Marcel offers 10-minute free phone chats to address your questions.
* Please note:  we are not treating patients who have been diagnosed with Coronavirus.  We are offering IVC preventively.
Home made disinfectant spray

Many disinfectants labeled as anti-bacterial also kill viruses. Straight hydrogen peroxide and isopropyl alcohol, are effective as well.  Regular hand soap is also fine for washing hands to remove the virus (see specific directions in Dr. Connie's article, above).

Easy Homemade Hand Sanitizer Ingredients
and Directions

-- 2/3 cup 99% rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or ethanol.

-- 1/3 cup aloe vera gel.

-- 8-10 drops essential oil, optional (such as lavender, vanilla, peppermint, grapefruit)

-- bowl and spoon.

-- funnel.

-- recycled liquid soap or hand sanitizer bottle.

Simply mix the ingredients together and then use the funnel to pour them into the bottle. Screw the pump back onto the bottle and you're ready to go.

The active ingredient in this hand sanitizer recipe is the alcohol, which needs to comprise at least 60% of the product in order to be an effective disinfectant.

Inspiration...

Pandemic

What if you thought of it
as the Jews consider the Sabbath-
the most sacred of times?

Cease from travel.
Cease from buying and selling.
Give up, just for now,
on trying to make the world
different than it is.

Sing. Pray. Touch only those
to whom you commit your life.
Center down.

And when your body has become still,
reach out with your heart.
Know that we are connected
in ways that are terrifying and beautiful.
(You could hardly deny it now.)

Know that our lives
are in one another's hands.
(Surely, that has come clear.)
Do not reach out your hands.
Reach out your heart.
Reach out your words.
Reach out all the tendrils
of compassion that move, invisibly,
where we cannot touch.

Promise this world your love--
for better or for worse,
in sickness and in health,
so long as we all shall live.
