Welcoming and Celebrating United Way Worldwide's New President & CEO Angela Williams
United Way Worldwide President and CEO Angela F. Williams, JD, M.Div recently attended a UWCG event in Macon, GA. The event featured a presentation from Angela on behalf of United Way about its purpose, mission, and the power of service. Angela steps into this role as the first African American and first woman to lead United Way Worldwide.

With more than 30 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit and corporate sectors, Angela brings a long history of purpose-driven work to her role at United Way. Most recently, she was president and CEO of Easterseals, Inc. Before joining Easterseals, Angela spent 11 years as EVP, general counsel, and chief administration officer at YMCA of the USA.
Houston County School District Raises $100,000 for UWCG 100 Year Anniversary
Houston County School District recently presented a check to United Way of Central Georgia for $100,539 as part of its 2021 workplace campaign and 25th anniversary of partnering with United Way. This was a huge success as it marked a 20% increase over their prior year's record total, and they raised $100,000 in the year we celebrate our 100th year anniversary! Our community is grateful to Houston County Schools for its continued partnership with UWCG and for helping to improve thousands of lives in our community.

UWCG Partnered with NewTown Macon and Middle Georgia Regional Library to Host "Seuss on the Loose" Event During First Friday
United Way of Central Georgia, NewTown Macon, and Middle Georgia Regional Library held a "Suess on the Loose" event downtown during First Friday to celebrate Dr. Suess' Birthday and literacy. UWCG hosted a Dr. Suess temporary tattoo station, costume raffle, book giveaway, story time, and a bookmark coloring station. Families were give more information about the Basics; five fun, simple, and powerful ways for children to become happy and smart, and UWCG's Parents as Teachers program that equips parents with knowledge and resources to give their children a stronger start in life and greater success in school.

Every year in Central Georgia, hardworking, moderate-to low-income families lack access to certified and IRS trained tax preparers and fail to claim important tax credits. In partnership with the IRS, United Way of Central Georgia leads a coalition to provide free tax preparation by IRS-trained and certified volunteers. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) coalition provides free tax preparation services and asset building resources to working families with moderate to low incomes.

Amanda Greechan as Communications Director
United Way of Central Georgia is pleased to welcome Amanda Greechan to the organization as Communications Director. Prior to this, she served as Digital Communications Officer at Wesleyan College for over four years and has over 10 years of experience working with community foundations and institutions of higher education.
United Way Offers Opportunity for Mercer Grads to Continue Work with Tutoring Program
In summer 2021, UWCG hired its first cohort of Mercerians to serve as site coordinators for our Read United program. Read more about this "pathway of opportunity" below!
