Health Partner Spotlights

Please join us in celebrating healthcare partners throughout Windsor-Essex who have recently been recognized for incredible achievements.

Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County

Congratulations to the Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County (ASWE) and the Town of Tecumseh, who have announced a proposed partnership (in principle) to develop a new, next-generation dementia-friendly facility for the ASWE on Town lands, north of Tecumseh Arena.

The proposal includes the construction of an approximately 20,000 square foot, two-story building, along with an adjacent therapeutic garden designed to support individuals living with dementia and their care partners. The proposed facility reflects a growing need for dementia-related supports in Windsor-Essex County as the number of individuals living with dementia is increasing and is projected to continue rising in the years ahead.

To learn more about this exciting project, please visit ASWE's website.

WEOHT Attends Indigenous Cancer Conference

On May 1, members of the WEOHT staff, along with many partners attended the 2026 Indigenous Cancer Conference, hosted by the Erie St. Clair Regional Cancer Program in conjunction with Caldwell First Nation.

This one‑day conference focused on empowering survivorship, cancer screening programs and prevention, compassionate choices, and traditional medicine, while uplifting Indigenous voices to lead the way in cancer care innovation and equity. The WEOHT was honoured to sponsor the Aamjiwnaang Ininwag drum group, helping to support and celebrate this important event.

University of Windsor Alumni and Student

Pow Wow

On May 2, the thunder of drums and the heartbeat of community radiated across the floor at the Alumni and Student Pow Wow held at the University of Windsor’s Toldo Lancer Centre. WEOHT staff were pleased to support this event by volunteering during the set-up and throughout the day, as well as hosting an information table. It was an honour to take part in this vibrant celebration of Indigenous culture, tradition, and unity, which brought together students, alumni, and community members from across Windsor-Essex and beyond.

Healing the Space Between Us Blanket Exercise

On May 21, we were honoured to welcome Sara Williams and Dr. Jody Ralph from the University of Windsor's Nursing program to lead members of the WEOHT, along with numerous community partners for “Healing the Space Between Us”, an event inspired by the KAIROS Blanket Exercise.

Surrounded by Mother Earth in the Healing Garden at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH), participants were taken on a chronological journey of experiences of Indigenous Peoples and the injustices faced, not only in the past, but also in present day, inviting conversation, advocacy, and action.

These sessions are open to all team members and we encourage attendance from anyone interested in enhancing cultural awareness and contributing to a more inclusive environment.
