Building a Culture of Generosity

Begins August 17: Register Now!

Sharing God's gifts opens possibilities to strengthen vital and sustainable ministries. Yet, encouraging a spirit of hope, gratitude, and generosity is a significant ministry challenge today. As congregations struggle and worry about their future, we invite you to discover new possibilities for ministry and mission together as we build a culture of generosity. This new stewardship program launches on August 17, and is for congregations seeking to stabilize and grow financial giving while nurturing a culture of grace, gratitude, and generosity.

Konde Diocese Update

With the guidance of their national church body, The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT), an assembly was held where the previous bishop, Dr. Edward Mwaikali, was removed from office. The assembly elected the Rev. Geoffrey Mwakihaba as bishop and the Rev. Meshack Njinga as Assistant to the Bishop. They were installed in their offices last month and have established the head office of the diocese in the city of Tukuyu. The new bishop previously served as assistant to the bishop and visited our synod once, in 2009. Pastor Njinga is known to some in York County as he attended York College many years ago. The former bishop, Dr. Mwaikali, has left the roster of the ELCT.

We continue to pray for the Konde Diocese and their mission of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in their varied settings. We look forward to our mutual, ongoing, learning and sharing of how ministry is accomplished through our covenant relationship, a relationship blessed by God for 26 years.

EVENTS, OPPORTUNITIES, & UPDATES FROM OUR MISSION PARTNERS

A Review of the ELCA Social Statement on Abortion

August 3 ULS Zoom Event For Rostered Leaders

How do rostered leaders faithfully respond to a Supreme Court decision to rescind Roe v. Wade?

In 1991, the ELCA published a social statement on abortion. Lutherans have acknowledged that this is a very complicated issue with ramifications for all its membership. In order to better engage with our ministry contexts in a faithful and transparent manner, we need to re-examine our social statement.

United Lutheran Seminary is working with the ELCA Advocacy Office to present this timely review on August 3 at 7:00 p.m. via zoom. Cost is $10; registration required.
