HOW A CAREGIVER SPARKED A RESEARCH PROJECT

Local funding for research benefits the people of Windsor-Essex. This local project started as an idea from a caregiver, became a funded research project and resulted in an international event to support those who need it most.

THE STUDY

The Caring for the Caregiver Study was the brainchild of a local caregiver who saw a need to recognize the important role families, as informal caregivers, play in supporting their loved ones and providing relief to an underfunded mental health and addictions healthcare system. The study included 78 survey responses and 21 interviews with local caregivers of an adult with mental illness and/or addiction.

THE CONFERENCE

The Caring for the Caregiver Conference agenda was carefully curated based on the experiences and needs caregivers expressed as part of the Study. Experts on the specific topics raised as part of the research facilitated practical and educational sessions, providing for meaningful content. Caregivers had opportunities to connect with fellow caregivers as part of small groups.
