On January 6, Field Team 6 and a national grassroots coalition of voter registration organizations marked the anniversary of the Insurrection by registering new voters to prevent another one. The coalition of 130 organizations held 66 virtual and in-person voter drives, and surpassed our hyper-ambitious goal of reaching 500,000 people. We reached 800,000. What a great way to kick off 2022!
Right now, democracy-saving voting rights legislation is coursing through the bloodstream of Congress towards an historic vote. As MLK Day approaches, Dr. King’s family has said, “No celebration without legislation.” We’ve got to keep fighting with all our heart to push this through.
Here's how:
• Lead your own voter drive on MLK Day, in the spirit of the voter drives that pushed the Civil Rights Movement forward. (Or join one in Arizona HERE.) Find everything you need in our Voter Drive in a Box!
• Join one or more of our phone banks, text banks, postcarding parties or social storms this week – sign up HERE!
Though this may be hard to remember: this is one battle in a big war. We win by fighting as hard as we can, leaving everything on the field… and getting up tomorrow to do it again.
And we won’t let democracy die on our watch – because we don’t give up.

Dr. King’s family – along with faith leaders, civil rights leaders, and voting rights advocates across the country – have called on us to demand passage of voting rights legislation and access to the ballot box this year on Martin Luther King day.

OMG! Last week, as part of our #TakeBackJan6 National Voter Registration Day of Action we hit 50 million impressions on Twitter alone! What?!
Every Wednesday we jump onto the web to raise awareness for Field Team 6's efforts to #RegisterDemocrats and save the world.
Our next efforts will be around the must-pass #FreedomToVote Act, the #VRAA, and our ongoing #FightForVotingRights. We’re ramping up pressure on Senators to reform the filibuster and pass these landmark pieces of legislation. We’ll also be supporting our ongoing in-person voter drive trainings, phone banks, text banks and postcarding programs.

VOLUNTEER SHOUT-OUT: LYNN BOMMER |

This week we’re shouting out an incredible Field Team 6 original gangster, Lynn Bommer — a retired teacher who turned to activism to fill the void left by retirement and an empty nest.
“I have a purpose and it feels great doing something positive during these crazy times. I prefer phone banking because I like meeting with people who share my values, and I particularly enjoy the camaraderie of the group of phone bankers.”
As a longtime activist, she participates any way she can. “I enjoy attending a Dem meeting to hear a good speaker, but I much prefer being on a college campus registering voters, attending a rally, traveling to another State to help out or joining a group phone bank.”
Canvassing for the Obama campaign was one of Lynn’s all-time highlights. “I rented a large car and on election day we filled it with food and drove to one of the few open polling places. People were waiting in a very long line, some with small children. And it's cold in Toledo in November! We carried hot coffee, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese and more.”
They knew that Ohio was the key to Obama winning. So she was over the moon when later that night, they announced Obama had taken Ohio!
Then during the Hillary campaign, Lynn was running phone banks at 11 different locations. “It was thrilling! Whole families came. Parents wanted their children to be a part of electing the first female president.”
That led to her joining the Field Team 6 Family, when Jason Berlin asked her to join his early efforts in Orange County. Since then, Lynn has led countless phone banks, as well as in-person voter drives and fundraising events. A brilliant organizer, she's not only boundlessly enthusiastic – she's also hilarious.
Lynn has a funny memory from the 1988 presidential election. She always taught her children the importance of being an active participant in our democracy. So during the election, she saw a teaching moment and brought her son along to be a poll-watcher. “That night the results came in. Dukakis had lost in a landslide! When I told my son that our candidate had lost he said, ‘We should have voted for the other guy!’"
Lynn, we applaud your longtime dedication, unrelenting passion, and invaluable experience. And we look forward to doing great things together in 2022!
