A note from your Executive Director
What better way to kick off summer than with Juneteenth celebrations last weekend and Pride festivities throughout the month? I hope you are taking advantage of the long days and getting out into our beautiful Oregon summer.

But even with all the fun, there is no doubt that most eyes are focused on the State Capital as legislators rush to pass critical budget and policy bills before the final gavel falls no later than Sunday June 25. Join us for our ONLINE ONLY legislative update to get up to speed on what passed, what died, and what it means to have the longest walkout in Oregon history (42 days).

A few important scheduling reminders:

News & Notes from WEA
Economic Incentive package heads to Oregon Senate
Earlier this week, the Oregon House passed House Bill 2009, which created the critical research and development credits needed to make Oregon nationally competitive for federal CHIPS and Science Act grants. This is one of the most important pieces of legislation this session.

Earlier this session, the Legislature delivered a $210 million investment in the Oregon semiconductor industry through Oregon CHIPS (Senate Bill 4), which positions Oregon businesses to compete for this time-sensitive federal funding. The 2023-2025 Economic Incentive Modernization Budget package (House Bill 2009) will set companies up to apply for this funding.

Join WEA on Tuesday evening when Senator Janeen Sollman (District 15 - Forest Grove, Cornelius, Hillsboro, Rock Creek) will provide us an update on this critical piece of legislation, which also addressed Enterprise Zones and the Strategic Investment Program, or SIP. See registration info for the online event below.
City of Wilsonville adopts plan, invests in transit
At the June 19, 2023, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, on first reading, the Council adopted a new Transit Master Plan, which details a work plan to guide South Metro Area Regional Transit (SMART) operations. The plan guides future goals and strategies to help the City of Wilsonville improve transit services and maintain a sustainable public transit system.

The Council also approved a $850,000 contract with PIVOT Architecture to design SMART’s facility expansion, which is to provide additional fleet parking, a reconfigured drive aisle, security gate, automated bus wash facility, and to underground electric utilities for battery-electric bus charging. Final design and construction is to be funded with Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund (STIF) formula and local transit tax funding.

The next regular meeting of the City Council is to be held on Monday, July 17, at 7 pm; a pre-meeting work session is scheduled at 5 pm. Community members can watch all City Council meetings on cable (Xfinity Ch. 30, Ziply Ch. 32) or on the City’s YouTube channel: ci.wilsonville.or.us/WilsonvilleTV.
