Welcome Class of 2025

WEAA welcomes our new first year scholars, Class of 2025. We are excited to get to know them over the next four years.

Alumnae Updates

Thelma I.20210603_155448 _6_.jpg

Thelma Iwuchukwu - Class of 2016

Thelma Iwuchukwu, NU class of 2016, majored in sociology with a minor in global health studies. She lives in Hawthorne, California, and has been busy furthering her education. We congratulate Thelma on completing her MS in occupational therapy. We wish her well as she enters her new career.

Thelma participated in the NU Living Library program during her sophomore year when she shared her story about running the Los Angeles marathon in high school and her experience as a low-income Nigerian-American student. She also contributed to the food insecurity project in the Meru District Maya Krasnow through Northwestern University Global Health Studies Program. The research project was designed to determine the impact of food insecurity on individuals and households in the Arusha region of Northern Tanzania. The results of the research yield information on the vulnerability of the elderly, widows, single-parent households, and those without consistent jobs. Issues around food insecurity also focused on education, climatic factors, and crop cultivation and storage.

Still on the move, Thelma is advancing herself and preparing for a future in serving her community. We congratulate Thelma on her latest accomplishment of a master’s degree in occupational therapy.

Jennie Myhren- Class of 2012

Jennie Myhren graduated from NU in 2012 with a journalism and history degree. She lives and works in Chicago where she has established a software engineer career at Vizient Inc., a “leading health care performance improvement company serving more than half of the health care organizations across the United States”.  Jennie’s profession enables her to continue to learn and grow her biotech, machine learning and software engineering skills. Time for entertainment and having fun is also important; hiking, traveling, and exploring new foods are some ways Jennie likes to relax and enjoy life.

We are excited to hear from Jennie and learn about her work and activities. WEAA celebrates Jennie and her accomplishments. We are happy to learn that she has decided to live and work in Chicago, where she can make a difference in providing services to Vizient, Inc. and to residents of the city.

WEAA looks forward to hearing from past board members

and alumnae.

Antonia McKinney FB_IMG_1626920589366.jpg

Antonia McKinney - Class of 2005

Antonia McKinney graduated from Northwestern in 2005 with a BS in chemical engineering. After college she joined General Mills in Reed City, Michigan, supporting Yoplait Operations. In 2007 she joined the Dow Chemical Company and has held many roles in manufacturing in both Texas and Michigan. Currently she resides in Midland, Michigan, and leads engineering design teams supporting several sites across North America. Outside of work, she volunteers as a judge advisor for FIRST Robotics in Michigan and judge at the FIRST Robotics Detroit World Championship.

"During my undergrad years I had little confidence and struggled with college life. Knowing that the ladies of WEAA were supporting me and wanted me to succeed helped me to see the possibilities for my life to realize my full potential," says Antonia.

WEAA celebrates Antonia for her work and for giving back to the community. She is another WEAA and NU scholar who is making a positive difference in the world.

1994-2021

Qunsia Daniel with Jacqueline Bryant

"This is my friend, Qunsia Daniel. I met her as a new Northwestern first year student in 2012. She could light up a room. She graduated in 2016 and began to work for Teach for America. She later worked as an assistant director of a middle school, realizing her passion for teaching young people." (Jacqueline Bryant, WEAA board member)

Felicia Snead, Qunsia's cousin, remembers her as a charismatic and driven person. She grew up in Hartwell, Georgia, and moved to Evanston, Illinois, in 2012 to study at Northwestern University where she joined WEAA. She worked in the field of education, performing arts, and joined the sisterhood of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. Qunsia moved to Orange County, California, where she called home after graduating. Qunsia lost her battle with kidney and colon cancer on July 11, 2021. We remember her and the joy she brought to everyone.

Bonnie Wefler.jpg

1927-2021

Bonnie Kistner Wefler graduated from Northwestern University in the Class of 1950. She spent many years serving on the WEAA board and later as an active associate board member until 2021. It was clear to everyone who knew Bonnie that she loved NU and WEAA. She was a great supporter of NU sports and attended games in school colors with pom-poms in hand. Bonnie's smile and warmth enveloped the room at board gatherings. We remember and thank Bonnie for her years of service and for always sharing her positive spirit.
