Inclement Weather

Tonight's activities at St. Mary's will proceed as planned. The forecast calls for the bad weather to begin around 9pm at the earliest, and we will be done long before then. Laura and Betty's soup will keep us warm!

However, the Noon Mass on Thursday, February 22nd, is cancelled as the ice will likely accumulate overnight and tomorrow morning.

Hope to see you all tonight!

Peace,
Fr. Charles
Ministry Spotlight: Sermon Archive
Did you know that sermons at St. Mary's are being recorded and being posted to our website? We try to post both audio recordings and sermon manuscripts most weeks by sundown on Sunday evening. You can find them by clicking here. To manually find the page in the future, go to our website, hover on "Worship", and you will see the page.

The next time you're talking to a friend or family member about St. Mary's, please consider referring them to our website to find out more about the parish, including the sermon archive and other musical recordings. Also, this resource will be helpful for those who are home bound or sick and unable to come to church.

I would like to extend a special thanks to one of our newest members, Chris McQueeny, for taking on the responsibility of managing this ministry. This involves not only managing the small recorder at Mass, but also slicing and dicing the audio file Sunday afternoon and posting it to our website. Thank you for taking on this important ministry, Chris! - Fr. Charles
Adult Confirmation Classes
Our Adult Confirmation group met for the first time this Tuesday. Because of the ice storm, we met via video conference instead of in person. Five out of six were able to attend!

Please pray for those who are preparing to be confirmed or received at the upcoming Regional Confirmation on Saturday, April 7th at 2pm at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral. And please put this time and date on your calendar!

  • Raja Reed - confirmation
  • John Stanks - confirmation
  • Erica Janel - confirmation
  • Hayden Heverling - confirmation
  • David Higdon - confirmation
  • Chris McQueeny - being received from the Orthodox Church
Wednesdays at St. Mary's during Lent
Stations of the Cross, 6pm
Bible Study and Light Soup Dinner at 6:30pm

The Bible Study is on the readings from the The Good Book Club. Daily readings can be found here .
Private Confession
A priest will be available to offer spiritual guidance and sacramental confession each Saturday during Lent from 10:00am-10:45am in St. George's Chapel (Saturday, February 17, through Saturday, March 31st, inclusive). Because Downtown Outreach will be using the parish hall at that time, please enter the church through the street entrance on the northwest side of the building. You may also schedule time with Fr. Charles by emailing him at charleseverson@gmail.com.
Morning Prayer
All are invited to pray Morning Prayer live on Facebook each morning during Lent at 6:30am. You may also pray Morning Prayer later in the day by viewing the recording. Click here for more information.
Upcoming Events
  • Choral Evensong. Sunday, April 8th, 7:00pm, at St. Mary's.. KC VITAs, Kansas City's premier new-music choir, is presenting the world-premiere of a new choral evensong by composer L.V. Wood. This unique service was composed with the architectural features of St. Mary's in mind and features a number of singers from St. Mary's own choir. Mark your calendars now to attend this beautiful collaboration between KC VITAs Chamber Choir and St. Mary's. Fr. Charles Everson will be the officiant.
This year, as we have the past two years, we will be joining forces with our sister parish, St. Augustine's, for two of the Holy Week Services. Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday, March 25th, and ends on Easter Day, April 1st. Here are some details:

  • Palm Sunday. Normal service times: 8:00am and 10:00am.
  • Maundy Thursday at St. Augustine's. 6:00pm. Our choir will sing a beautiful setting of the Ubi Caritas, and St. Augustine's musicians will provide the rest of the music.
  • Good Friday. 6:00pm. The choir is singing a lovely setting of the Passion, and there will be communion from the reserve sacrament.
  • Holy Saturday. A brief Holy Saturday service will occur in place of the 11:05 Mass.
  • The Great Vigil of Easter. 8:00pm. Bishop Marty Field will be the celebrant and preacher. Members of St. Augustine's are invited to join us at St. Mary's for this service.
  • Easter Sunday. Normal service times: 8:00am and 10:00am.
