Every church has a story. Ours began in 1848, and for generations, the people of First Presbyterian Church of Pottstown have worshiped, served, welcomed, cared for one another, and followed God together. This fall, we’ll spend some time remembering the stories that have brought us here—and wondering together about the stories still waiting to be written.

Where have we seen God’s grace at work? What gifts have we received along the way? What stories of welcome, generosity, belonging, and faithfulness have shaped who we are? And as we look toward the future, what kind of stories do we hope to tell?

As we enter this season of stewardship, take some time to reflect, pray, and consider the part you might play in the next chapter of our life together.

Be sure to save the date for Dedication Sunday, November 8, when we’ll bring our pledges for 2027 forward and celebrate together with a time of food and fellowship following worship.

What Does a Successful Year Look Like?

At our September meeting, Session spent time reflecting on a simple but important question: How will we define a successful year? When we look back at the end of the 2026–2027 program year, what will we see, hear, and feel that tells us we are growing together as a congregation?

Our conversation pointed toward a year of growing, deepening our connections, and building a church where people feel they belong and want to participate. We aren't simply hoping to see more people in the pews. We want to be a congregation where relationships grow, people find meaningful ways to serve, and our neighbors know they have a place among us.

Together, we named several hopes for the year ahead: welcoming new people and increasing participation; creating meaningful opportunities for children, youth, and families; inviting more people into leadership and service; strengthening relationships across generations and beyond Sunday mornings; and offering worship, learning, and fellowship that nourish our faith. We also recognize that healthy, sustainable ministry requires attention to our staffing, finances, and building, so we can continue serving our congregation and community for years to come.

Above all, we hope to become a congregation that feels more connected, joyful, energized, and hopeful about the future. Success won't be measured by numbers alone, but also by the stories we hear: stories of people finding community, discovering their gifts, growing in faith, and experiencing a sense of belonging.

These hopes will help guide our work together throughout the year. As we go, we invite everyone to consider: What part might you play in helping our church grow into the community God is calling us to be?

For this year's devotional booklet, you will choose one prompt—or follow your own question—and write a short reflection (250 words). Tell us a story, share a memory, or simply reflect on a voice that has helped you hear the good news.
