GO TO KNOW

My Life, My Argument...

This month's Communion Offering will support the Pastor's Emergency Fund.

Church News

Please welcome Malena Stone, the Founder and Director of P.A.C.K., as she joins us for worship this Sunday and speaks to us during Jammin' July at 10:30 AM in the

Ministry Center.

Malena's story will inspire and challenge each of us to listen for God's call to "Go to Know." We will collect a love offering to support the work being done at PACK for children in our community. We are also collecting school supplies for children of all ages that will be packed for 700 foster children. Place supplies in the bins in the hallway or in the Ministry Center.

Join us for a meaningful and inspiring Summer Adult Education Series, held every Sunday morning in July in the Ministry Center, as each of our Adult Sunday School classes takes a short break from meeting in their classrooms. Each week, we’ll hear powerful stories from community leaders and mission partners who are making a difference—locally and globally. Together, we’re invited to Go To Know—to listen, learn, and be moved to action.

Sunday Schedule:

  • 9:15 AM – Worship in the Sanctuary
  • 10:30 AM – Light Breakfast & Fellowship in the Ministry Center
  • 10:45 AM – Speaker Introduction in the Ministry Center
  • 10:50–11:30 AM – Go To Know Presentation in the Ministry Center
  • 11:30 AM – Conclusion & Sending Out

A Love Offering will be collected each week in support of the presenting organization.

Series Lineup:

  • July 6 – Malena Stone with PACK (People of Action Caring for Kids)
  • July 13 – Yvonne Pryor with Inner City Night Shelter
  • July 20 – Alex Galvez & Rebecca with Transitions: The Guatemala Mission Team – The Christ Child’s Nest
  • July 27 – Andrea Epting with HUGS (Heads Up Guidance Services)

We look forward to seeing you there as we journey together to Go To Know.

Missions

Transitions Documentary on PBS

We hope that you will watch this powerful documentary on Transitions, to be aired on PBS in July. Transitions is one of our mission partners in Guatemala. They make custom wheelchairs for people with disabilities who also live in poverty. The addition of a wheelchair is often life-changing. You can also learn more about Transitions during our Jammin' July session on July 20.

Interviewees describe the overwhelming challenges facing poor people with disabilities in Guatemala, leading to social isolation, exclusion from school and work, increased poverty, and depression. But a wheelchair tailored to each user's capacity and circumstances makes a life-changing difference. Transiciones, whose staff are wheelchair users themselves, is transforming the perception and reality of disability through mobility, employment, and sport.

You can watch Power of Chairs on many PBS stations during July, or stream it via PBS.org.

Successful Kids Cafe Summer Feeding Program

Many thanks to everyone who served with the Kids Cafe Summer Feeding Program last week. We plated 3,000 meals to be distributed to 85 different sites! Once school resumes, the need is even greater. If you would like to be part of a team from IOHUMC that regularly serves at Kids Cafe, monthly or periodically, please contact Julie Vann at jvann@iohumc.com.

Student Ministry

Please be in prayer for our students and leaders who will participate in River of Life, a mission opportunity taking place this summer in Columbus, GA, July 9th - 13th. We look forward to pictures and stories of their experiences - being the hands and feet of Jesus while painting houses, doing yardwork, and building relationships through service.

Our Amazing Cooking Angels!

Our amazing Cooking Angels whipped up a festive “Fourth of July Picnic” meal for some of our members this week—think classic summer flavors with a side of love!

We’re so grateful for their generous hearts and culinary gifts that bring joy and comfort to others.

A Fundraiser of Another Kind

Here’s one you don’t have to write a check, sign a pledge card, attend an event, or even bake a cake. In fact, it is easy and may even take you on a trip down memory lane. Take a look in your jewelry box and see if there are any broken gold chains, single earrings, or items it is unlikely you will wear again (nor would your offspring want). If so, why not turn these past treasures into treasures that will have an eternal impact?

What has begun in a Sunday School class is now being shared with the entire congregation. In the past two months, class members and maybe a few friends have already raised $11,269 by donating their broken jewelry, unused silverware, and coins.

Your donations can be left in the church office or brought on Sunday. All collected gold and silver items are being turned in to a reputable dealer who, in turn, writes a check to IOHUMC to continue the work of the Lord as it is used to repair His gathering place. Let’s continue the work of answering His call.
