The God of More than Enough

Church News

Join the Generosity Challenge

For the past several weeks, we discovered more meaningful ways to live by combining the power of contentment with the joy of generosity. We explored what it means to have "Enough" - to live with simplicity, purpose, and gratitude - and how acts of generosity can reshape our hearts, relationships, and communities.

This Sunday is Commitment Sunday. Please prayerfully submit your 2026 Commitment Cards during worship, and continue to be in prayer for our leaders who soon begin setting a budget for our ministries and missions next year. (We will have extra Commitment cards available.)

This past week, two of our members shared how their “simple” idea turned into far more than ‘Enough.’

It's Clergy Appreciation Month!

October is Clergy Appreciation Month. It is a time to say “thank you” to the people who may be most visible as preachers and teachers, but who, in reality, are on-call 24/7, standing with congregants and communities to offer spiritual and personal support in times of confusion and transition, times of heart-wrenching sorrow, and times of overwhelming joy. They laugh, cry, and pray with those they shepherd and serve. Be sure to express your gratitude for our amazing clergy this month!

Your Missions Giving: Feeding the Hungry

Al Goff is the CEO of UNTO - the humanitarian aid arm of Campus Crusade for Christ. IOHUMC has supported Al and his wife Susan for many years through our Missions giving. I encourage you to read Al’s blog by clicking on the link HERE. He highlights the challenges faced by millions worldwide and demonstrates how your support is addressing those needs.

WE NEED YOUR TRUNK!

Our annual Trunk or Treat is just around the corner!

We’ve got the candy… but we need YOU (and your trunk)!

This fun community event depends on creatively decorated trunks, and we’re counting on lots of participation this year.

Sign up your car, truck, or golf cart and decorate it as simply or elaborately as you’d like...we’ll supply the candy!

Candy donations are also welcome! Drop them in the box outside the Children’s Ministries office or give money toward candy purchases.

Free hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone, thanks to one of our generous families!

Let’s fill the lot with trunks and smiles! Questions? Contact Beth Parr at 912-663-7466 or bparr@iohumc.com.

Students in 6th-12th grades have the best time hanging out, meeting new peeps, having a blast playing games, and showing love for Jesus. Meet in the Ministry Center for dinner and then move to the Green House for some fun!

Contact Meg Procopio at mprocopio@iohumc.com for info.

Fifth graders are our Children’s Ministry seniors! God Squad is their time to gather, laugh, enjoy dinner with friends from Student Ministry, study the Bible, do mission projects, and play games. Join us on Sundays at 5 pm in the Ministry Center.

Contact Beth Parr at bparr@iohumc.com or 912-663-7466 for info.

Special Concert - November 2nd

Hope Arbor

Mark Your Calendars for Music With A Mission!

We are deeply honored that Hope Arbor has been chosen as this year’s Mission Partner for First Presbyterian Church’s Music With A Mission concert series! Every donation given will directly support the ministry of Hope Arbor.

Let’s fill the pews together—bring your friends, family, and neighbors—for four wonderful Saturday evening concerts at First Presbyterian (520 Washington Ave) at 5:30 pm:

  • October 18 – Georgia Southern Chorale
  • January 10, 2026 – Strings and Things
  • February 21 – Bluegrass Celebration
  • April 18 – Broadway Review (local talent)

After each concert (except October), everyone is invited to a reception where you’ll have the chance to meet the performers. We’d love for Hope Arbor families to help host these receptions—sign-ups coming soon!

Music has a way of lifting hearts, bringing comfort, and creating community. This series is a special chance to experience the joy of music while supporting Hope Arbor and sharing our mission with others.

Two Birds with One Bake!

While you are baking fabulous goodies for the Day on the Island Sugar and Spice Shop, can you bake a little more? Our students would love a sweet treat on Sunday nights, so we are asking for 3 dozen cookies, brownies, or other individual desserts that easily freeze.

Able to help? Just bring them to the church office, labeled for Student Ministry. Thank you!

Grief doesn’t simply fade with time — it reshapes you. While sorrow remains a part of your story, life can expand to hold both the weight of loss and the possibility of joy again. You are not who you were before; you are someone new, carrying love in a different form.

If you have released someone you love through death, you are not alone. Holding Hope is a supportive community of people walking this journey together.

Ongoing Monthly Gatherings: Every 3rd Thursday at 10:30 a.m. For more information, email Meg Procopio at mprocopio@iohumc.com.
