WECC Reliability & Security Workshop October 14 & 15


Register now for our fall Reliability & Security Workshop where you will gain vital insights into the Western Interconnection. This two-day event focuses on risk-based, technical content designed to tackle the challenges you face every day and is recommended for practitioners of technical work and subject matter experts. Now with a new workshop format, Day One will feature general sessions followed by targeted sessions in our Day Two learning tracks.

WREGIS Comment Period Now Open New

The comment period on the recommended corporate structure and governance for WREGIS as a stand-alone entity is now open through 5:00 p.m. Mountain on August 29. WECC invites stakeholders to comment on the recommendation. All submitted comments will be posted publicly on wecc.org and shared with WECC’s Board at its September meeting.

WREGIS Town Hall New

WECC will host a second town hall to discuss the separation of WREGIS from WECC, establishing WREGIS as an independent company focused solely upon meeting the needs of its customers, stakeholders, and programs in the West. 


Please join us as we provide a status update and discuss the recommended corporate structure and governance for the stand-alone WREGIS. This town hall is also intended to be a forum to answer stakeholder questions and receive feedback. 



While this town hall is open to the public, to help us effectively use the time available, we encourage you to send questions in advance to engage@wecc.org. Additionally, a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document has been posted on wecc.org. The FAQs are regularly updated to include new inquiries as this process develops. 

Board of Directors Election New

The Nominating Committee (NC) completed an extensive search and made a unanimous recommendation for the nomination of Deneen DeFiore to the vacant Board of Directors seat for her extensive experience and knowledge in current cybersecurity risks, capabilities, strategies, and policies. Ballots were sent August 5 and the deadline to cast votes is Friday, September 5, at 3:15 p.m. Mountain. For more information on Ms. DeFiore, see the Nominating Committee recommendation and her bio. Elections for MAC Member Class Representative New

On August 5, election ballots for Member Advisory Committee (MAC) Member Class Representatives were sent. The deadline to vote is Friday, September 5, at 3:15 p.m. Mountain. For inquiries, contact Brittany Huggins.

Grid Fundamentals

This award recognizes a person or group who demonstrated commitment and support in delivering WECC’s reliability and security goals in the preceding year. Request for Proposal (RFP): WREGIS Software Development New


Expressions of Interest due by August 13

WECC is seeking proposals from vendors qualified to provide full-service design and development of a cloud-based software platform to support the WREGIS program. Information about the project, including scope of work, deliverables, vendor qualifications, and timelines are provided in the Request for Proposal—WREGIS SW Development | Western Electricity Coordinating Council document. The award will be announced on October 1.

Draft 20262028 Reliability Standards Development Plan New


Informal comment period open through 8:00 p.m. Eastern on September 5

An informal comment period for the NERC Draft 20262028 Reliability Standards Development Plan (RSDP) is now open. NERC will consider all industry comments received during this posting in developing the next version of the RSDP. The revised RSDP draft will be presented to the Standards Committee for endorsement. 



To submit comments, use the Standards Balloting and Commenting System (SBS). An unofficial Word version of the comment form is posted on the RSDP page. For questions, please contact NERC IT support directly.

Level 3 Alert—Inverter-Based Resource Performance and Modeling New

Reminder that NERC issued a Level 3 Alert requiring Generator Owners, Transmission Planners, Transmission Owners, and Planning Coordinators to acknowledge the alert and submit a response by the due date.

MSPPTF Seeks Feedback on Modernization of Standards Processes and Procedures White Paper


Feedback due by 11:59 p.m. Pacific on August 27.

The NERC MSPPTF posted a white paper on potential improvement opportunities for transforming how NERC develops its Reliability Standards in three areas: standards initiation, standards development, and balloting. 


The MSPPTF invites stakeholders to provide feedback on potential improvement opportunities that will inform draft recommendations to be developed later in 2025. To submit feedback, please use the White Paper Feedback Form or email mspp@nerc.net. Stakeholder feedback will be posted on the MSPPTF webpage, and the MSPPTF will present its final recommendations to the NERC Board in February 2026. 

E-ISAC Electricity Security Service Award Nominations


Nominations close at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on August 11.

NERC, the E-ISAC, and WECC are pleased to announce that nominations for the 2025 E-ISAC Electricity Security Service Award, named in honor of Michael J. Assante, are now open. This prestigious award recognizes individuals or teams who have significantly strengthened the security of the North American electric industry through dedication, innovation, and leadership. The winner will be notified on September 5 and announced at GridSecCon 2025 on October 9.

ERO Happenings

NERC Wildfire Mitigation Reference Guide

The updated NERC Wildfire Mitigation Reference Guide has been posted on the NERC website. This reference guide provides awareness on work being performed across industry to reduce the risk of wildfires started by utility electrical lines and equipment.

2025 SERC System Operator Conferences – 2 Remaining


Join SERC for one of its two remaining 2025 System Operator Conferences (SOC). SOCs are open to all industry professionals and offer a chance to earn up to 19 Continuing Education Hours (CEH) while learning, networking, collaborating with experts and peers from across the industry.


The remaining SOCs for 2025 are:

  • SOC #3: September 9–11; Embassy Suites, Little Rock, Arkansas (Registration deadline is August 22.) 
  • SOC #4 (Hybrid): October 14–16; SERC Offices, Charlotte, North Carolina, and virtual (Registration deadline is September 26.)

Cold Weather Preparedness

Small Group Advisory Sessions (SGAS)

NERC will host SGAS for registered entities to discuss the implementation of the Extreme Cold Weather Preparedness Standard, EOP-012-3, which was filed with FERC. While FERC has not yet approved EOP-012-3, NERC is planning the SGAS to prepare for the standard's effective date of October 1.


The event will consist of two parts:

  • General Session Live Webinar: Monday, August 18
  • SGAS One-on-One Sessions: August 19–22


Registration for SGAS One-on-One Sessions has closed, and NERC will notify those who have requested an SGAS of their appointment time. Participants may still register for the General Session Live Webinar.
