Reliability in the West Discussion Series: Regional Resource Adequacy and North American Long-Term Reliability

Wednesday, March 4, 11 a.m.–noon MST


The first Reliability in the West discussion topic of the year has been updated to focus on the latest developments in regional resource adequacy and long-term reliability. This session will highlight the recent WECC Western Assessment of Resource Adequacy and the NERC Long-term Reliability Assessment, addressing uncertainty and the challenges of large loads and resource build-out. Panelists will explore key findings and discuss their impact on the reliability of the Western grid.

Jeffrey Droubay Named WECC President and CEO

We are pleased to announce Jeffrey Droubay as our new president and CEO, effective March 1. Since joining WECC in 2022 as vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary, Jeffrey has demonstrated strong leadership and a deep commitment to our mission.


He succeeds Melanie Frye, who is retiring after nearly 20 years of dedicated service. Melanie will serve as CEO emeritus through mid-March to help ensure a smooth transition.

Draft Reliability Guideline: BPS Reliability Perspectives on the Adoption of IEEE 1547-2018 New

The NERC System Planning Impacts of DER Working Group (SPIDERWG) is conducting a review of the reliability guideline on BPS reliability perspectives on the adoption of IEEE 1547-2018.

ERO Happenings

2026 ERO Enterprise CMEP Implementation Plan New

NERC released the Electric Reliability Organization (ERO) Enterprise Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Program (CMEP) Implementation Plan (IP).


As part of the ongoing evaluation of reliability risks and alignment of the CMEP IP with observed system conditions, the ERO Enterprise updated the CMEP IP to place increased focus on communication protocols and the issuance of operating instructions.

2026 Probabilistic Analysis Forum New

The NERC Probabilistic Assessment Working Group (PAWG) will host the NERC Probabilistic Analysis Forum online and in Charlotte, North Carolina, March 10–12.


The forum will feature presentations, panel sessions, and discussions by industry subject matter experts on probabilistic applications in the electric industry.


In-person registration has closed, but you can still register as a virtual attendee.

NERC GO-2 and GOP-2 Small Group Advisory Sessions (SGAS)

NERC will host SGAS for Category 2 Generator Owners (GO-2) and Category 2 Generator Operators (GOP-2) with no previous NERC regulatory experience. The SGAS will help them understand their compliance obligations and prepare for implementation.

 

The event will consist of two parts:


  • General Session Live Webinar: March 26, 24 p.m. EDT
  • SGAS One-on-One Sessions: March 30April 10

 

Send SGAS registration requests and questions for the general session to Charlie Cook by February 27. NERC will accept SGAS one-on-one registrations on a first-come, first-served basis.

NERC Incident Review Posted

NERC has published a new incident review examining low wind operating challenges and risks for wind-invested grid operators. This review offers utilities several perspectives to consider.

NERC Board Accepts MSPPTF Recommendations

At its February meeting, the NERC board of trustees accepted the Modernization of Standards Processes and Procedures Task Force's (MSPPTF)  Recommendations for Transforming the Reliability Standard Development Framework.


The board also approved a resolution directing NERC management, with advisory support from the MSPPTF, to begin implementing the recommendations.
