WECC’s Board of Directors has engaged Lyceum Leadership Consulting, a nationally recognized executive search firm, to lead the WECC CEO search.

Reliability in the West Discussion Series: Winter Outlook New

Join us for the next edition of WECC's Reliability in the West Discussion Series November 5 at 11 a.m. MST. The discussion will provide an overview of Winter 2025, focusing on the weather outlook, including topics such as extreme weather events, natural gas availability, and resource adequacy. We will also cover key issues related to entity preparedness.

WREGIS Software Partnership Announcement

On October 15, WECC announced its partnership with Atomic Object to develop a greenfield enterprise software platform for the Western Renewable Energy Generation Information System (WREGIS). 

 

This project will create a custom software solution designed specifically for program participants in the Western United States and Canada. The software will provide a secure, scalable, and user-friendly solution that supports both compliance and voluntary renewable energy certificate (REC) markets across the West. 

 

Atomic Object is a custom software consultancy with more than 20 years of experience developing software, launching new products, enhancing existing ones, and modernizing legacy systems. Their integrated approach brings strategy, design, development, and delivery expertise all under one roof.

 

Initial development kick-off meetings commenced October 16, and preliminary technical meetings took place October 22–24.

Town HallWECC Member Representative Bylaws Voting

On September 17, the WECC Board of Directors approved revisions to the WECC Bylaws. Some of the revisions also require WECC Member approval. WECC has scheduled a Town Hall meeting November 6, at 3 p.m. MST, to provide an overview of the changes requiring Member approval, review the Bylaws voting and approval timeline, and to answer any questions.


Section 12.4 of the WECC Bylaws requires that proposed amendments be noticed at least 30 days before the beginning of balloting. Ballots will be sent November 3.

Fall 2025 Grid Fundamentals

Join WECC's Fall Grid Fundamentals course November 4 and 5. This virtual, two-day course offers participants a comprehensive explanation of how the electric power system works, how it is managed, and why. We'll cover the technology, operations, and markets of a modern, reliable power grid. We will also review reliability risks and regulations affecting the system.

Draft Reliability Guideline: Commissioning Best Practices for BPS-connected IBRs


Comment period open through November 6

The NERC Inverter-Based Resource Performance Subcommittee (IRPS) has developed a draft reliability guideline, "Commissioning Best Practices for BPS-connected IBRs." This guideline offers recommendations tailored to three main categories of stakeholders involved in commissioning IBRs:


  • Transmission Planners, Planning Coordinators, and Transmission Owners
  • Generator Owners and Generator Operators
  • Original Equipment Manufacturers


A survey has been developed to evaluate the guideline's effectiveness.
