#1 - First Flight lands at XWA; Thousands attend Grand Opening Events
Williston Economic Development (WED) helped organize events for the new Williston Basin International Airport's grand opening. The first flight landed on October 10, 2019. The Delta Airlines plane was piloted by a Williston native. The festivities included a live remote radio broadcast with Joel Heitkamp and city leaders and elected officials gave passengers commemorative "First Flight" coins. Prior to opening, WED helped organize Community and VIP Days at XWA.
#2 - WED earns Bronze Award from International Economic Development Council
WED received the Bronze Award for "Economic Development Week" project in the Innovation in Economic Development Week category from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).  "It's always an honor when you are recognized by an organization such as IEDC. They are the gold standard in the economic development world," said Shawn Wenko.   News Release
#3 - Sloulin Redevelopment moves Forward; Copeland secures 40 Acres
As crews began to dismantle the former airport site, the city started to entertain offers for the sale of portions of Sloulin Field for redevelopment. The city received two bid for approximately 40 acres; one from Copeland Development and Construction Co, Inc. and another from Darwin Lindahl Architects with developer David Billion, owner of Williston Motors. Read More
#4 - Wenko named President of EDND Board 
WED Executive Director Shawn Wenko was named President of the Economic Development Association of North Dakota Board of Directors in 2019. The board includes four officers, three at-large members and two nonvoting associate members. Each member serves a two year term. EDND promotes the creation of new wealth across the state to develop more vibrant communities and improve quality of life.
#5 - Williston leads North Dakota in Flex PACE Incentives
The City of Williston awarded nearly $1.2 million in
STAR Fund incentives to 43 projects in 2019. These efforts leveraged almost $1.7 million in Bank of North Dakota (BND) matching dollars and $11.3 million in private investment.  "STAR Fund activity in 2019 indicates that economic interest in the region remains high," said Shawn Wenko, Williston Economic Development executive director.  Read More
#6 - Busted Knuckle, Hops and Berry, Cold Stone Creamery to open in Williston
The Williston City Commission approved STAR Fund financial incentives for several new restaurants and lounges including Busted Knuckle Brewery (pictured above), Hops & Berry, Slater's and Cold Stone Creamery in 2019. Hops & Berry, LLC is a new self-service beer and wine taproom in Downtown Williston featuring up to 46 craft beer selections, eight wines and limited food. News Release
#7 - WED launches Digital Community Guide
WED announced the launch of its new digital community guide. The purpose of the guide is to attract job seekers to Williston. The city has over 1,000 job openings listed at Job Service North Dakota. It also serves as a great resource for newcomers. The publication is located online at  http://community.willistonnd.com Businesses are encouraged to share the link on their websites. 
#8 - Wenko earns Chamber's Western Star Award
The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards banquet on Friday, Jan. 18, recognizing individuals and businesses for their outstanding commitment to making the community a better place. Hundreds of guests filled the McCody Concrete building for the night's event. The Western Star Award was presented to WED Executive Director Shawn Wenko (pictured above). Annual Chamber Banquet

WED partnered with The Creative Treatment for the second year in a row to produce 12 Williston Works podcasts. The tapings were held July 9 and 10 at the Center for Development in Williston. Selected entrepreneurs were interviewed by WED Executive Director Shawn Wenko. Pictured above is Chuck Black from FlowCore Systems. 
#10 - WED employs Gonzaga Summer Interns
WED hired two summer interns from Gonzaga University (GU) in 2019. Rayce Vergets and Sarah Dobbler (pictured above with Shawn Wenko) spent their internships working on individual projects. The GU - Williston Summer Internship Program celebrated its 7th anniversary in 2019. The program has served more than 90 students from the Spokane-based university since it started in 2012.
