The Wayne County Schools Career Center (WCSCC) has been proudly serving Wayne County for over 50 years. Developed in 1969, the center has continuously contributed to the training of Wayne County’s exceptional workforce. The career center and its employees are a living, breathing example of their mission statement – provide knowledge, skill development, and experiences necessary for a lifetime of personal and professional growth. Everything from the programs they offer to the relationships they build, they do it for the success of the students and the community. As many of you have already heard, we have a new face in town! Earlier this month, we welcomed Maribeth Burns as our new President. Burns has more than 30 years of leadership experience with the J.M. Smucker Co. in communications, government relations, and community relations. As a Wayne County resident, Burns is actively involved in the community and currently serves on the Boards of The Wayne County Community Foundation, The Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club, Aultman Orrville, the Aultman Health Foundation, Heartland Education Community, Inc., and OrrViews. “We are excited to appoint Maribeth as president and are looking forward to the contributions she will provide to the WEDC as we leverage her vast experience and strong leadership capabilities. She will be of great value in further building on our mission to promote and facilitate business retention and strategic business growth in Wayne County. As a former WEDC Board member, she fully understands the importance of the WEDC and the positive impact the organization can have on Wayne County,” said Don Noble II, WEDC Board Chair. Did You Know, Wayne County is Home to a Famous Pixar Filmmaker?  Robert Peterson, born in Wooster, Ohio, currently works for Pixar as an animator, screenwriter, storyboard supervisor, director, and voice actor. He helped animate Toy Story (1995), co-directed Up (2009), in which he also voiced the characters Dug and Alpha, and co-wrote Finding Nemo (2003) and Cars 3 (2017).

ODOT Approves Nearly $1 Million Grant to Complete Heartland Trail Gap in Orrville

The Ohio Department of Transportation recently approved a $947,972 grant through the Transportation Alternative Program which will fill the gap between Allen Avenue and Forrer Road. The gap closure will also allow access to two larger trail systems - the Ohio to Erie Trail and the Great American Rail Trail. “We are excited to complete the trail, and provide our citizens and the community with additional recreational and economic development opportunities.” - Steven Wheeler, Orrville Safety-Service Director Construction is set for 2024.
