Dear WEDI Members,

What a pleasure it was to host so many of you at our National Conference in Arlington this month! I enjoy every opportunity to talk with each of you about the challenges around realizing the true efficiencies and innovations that can be found in health IT, and how certain policies and initiatives are impacting your organizations. Together with all stakeholders at the table, we can spark change and work to build a better system. I hope to see all of our members and more new faces at the Spring Conference in San Diego, California. Mark your calendars now to join us May 20-23, as our staff and education committee are already hard at work bringing in the most impactful and influential speakers of our industry.

We have no shortage of important activities underway by our organization and Workgroups and have outlined a number of those in this newsletter. Should you have any questions or be looking for ways in which you can be involved, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re always happy to have more active members join our Workgroups and Subworkgroups to share their expertise and contribute to the furthering of our mission. And we greatly welcome and encourage the input of our membership, as you’ll see in the two current surveys underway. Your guiding suggestions help drive our organization and the topics in which we focus. We thank you all for your time in taking the surveys.

Our team is well underway planning an exciting event for the Spring Conference in San Diego, California. WEDI conferences showcase best practices, emerging trends and case studies in Health IT. Our goal is to bring together the brightest minds in the industry to give talks that are idea-focused, foster learning and provoke conversations that matter. We hope you’ll mark your calendar now to join us May 20-23, 2019. 
WEDI has just recently released a Telehealth Survey to gather input from health care providers, patients/consumers, and health care payers on their use of telehealth and any barriers they encounter in implementing telehealth services. The goal of this survey is to understand telehealth services between providers, payers, and patients/consumers. The Telehealth Workgroup will use the information gathered in the survey in its work looking at the barriers to the broader adoption of telehealth. Submit your responses before December 12 .
WEDI’s recent announcement of award winners was recently featured in HITECH Answers. The article, “ WEDI Honors Health IT Industry Leaders at the WEDI National Conference through Annual Awards,” gives the full details on the award recipients and the awards.

All of our workgroups have special projects and activities underway, here’s just a brief highlight of a few:

  • Claim Status survey results are in! Join the Claim Status Subworkgroup Friday, December 7 at Noon ET, as we dive into the Claim Status Survey results to uncover themes and develop an action plan to raise awareness of opportunities. The SWG is focused on the exchange of claim status request/response (276/277), the business issues that prevent its adoption and potential ROI savings for both providers and health plans. Attend to share what works and what can be improved to increase the exchange of claim status information that will drive down the need for phone calls.
  • The Remittance Advice & Payment Subworkgroup presented a webinar on 835 balancing earlier this month and is currently working on a paper outlining usage of the PLB segment in the 835 for various business purposes.
  • The Acknowledgements Subworkgroup has reviewed its survey results and determined there is a need for better education to further adoption. If done well, acknowledgments can reduce administrative phone calls related to document rejections. With the pending NPRM including acknowledgements, the SWG will be creating a “Did You Know” education piece to better prepare the industry.
  • The Telehealth Workgroup just launch a survey to gather industry input on the barriers to further adoption of telehealth. The survey is targeted for all providers and payers, as well as patients/consumers of health, which means that everyone should take a few minutes and complete it. The survey is open until December 12, but don’t wait! The workgroup will use the results of the survey to shape the paper it is writing on the barriers to broader adoption of telehealth. The goal is that through understanding the barriers, we can work as an industry to find resources and solutions to fix them.
