A TEAM EFFORT

In Exodus 17 we see The Amalekites fighting with Israel. Mose told Joshua, his personal servant, in verse 9, “And Moses said unto Joshua, choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.”
There was authority in that rod. God had anointed it when Moses met God at the burning bush. It represented God and his authority in Moses’ hand.
As the battle grew fierce, Moses, Aaron, his brother, and Hur, a relative of Caleb, went up the mountain. In verse 11 it says, “And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.”
There are times in battle that we just cannot “hold up.” We are tired, and weary. This was the case with Moses. If you have ever lifted your arm in the air, you would know you cannot hold it out for long without it feeling like a thousand pounds are pulling it down. And not only that, Moses was holding the weight of the staff in his hand up in the air.
At this point Moses just could not hold it up and the enemy was defeating Israel because of his weakness. That is when Aaron and Hur came to his rescue. They saw how heavy Moses hands were becoming, and his inability to hold up under the pressure. In verse 12 it says, “…and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon: and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.”
Has the thought ever occurred to you that Mose had to “receive” their help? He could have been prideful and said, “I can do this!” But it did not happen that way. He received their help. In fact, he took them with him up the mountain and perhaps knew that he would need help.
How often are we carrying a burden and trying to do it alone? God never intended for us to be “Lone Rangers” doing it alone. There is nothing prideful in asking for help.
Because Moses got the help he needed. Verse 13 shows us the results. It says, “and Joshua discomfited [defeated] Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.”
Never discount help when it is offered. It just might help you win the battle! A team effort can make the difference.
