HAVING AN APPETITE FOR GOD
Do you enjoy food? I could ask you, what is your favorite food and most of you would have an answer. I could ask, what do you have an appetite for, and most would have an answer. I love to watch people shop. Some just take what they need off the shelf and put it into the cart. Others spend a great deal of time sorting and picking the best of the best of what they “have an appetite for.” They are in the stores much longer than others.
Do you enjoy music? I could ask you, what is your favorite type of music, and most would have an immediate answer. I could ask you, what is your favorite song, and most would have an answer. Some people spend hours listening to music and their favorite type of music and favorite artist. Others can take it or leave it.
I could ask you what your favorite sport is, and many would come up with an answer immediately. They are passionate about their favorite team. They wouldn’t miss a game even if it interfered with Church or Bible study. Others might say they have no interest in sports at all.
Do you have favorite clothing, hair styles, or jewelry? Do you spend a lot of time “getting ready” each day with makeup, and getting ready? Some would say it is of little interest, while others are consumed with their “trinkets” and other stuff. Some wouldn’t leave home without their makeup properly applied, while others even forget to take a bath. Everyone does their own thing.
I could ask you do you have an appetite for God? Do you hunger for time with him? Do you search the scriptures and study to learn new things daily like those who shop for hours in a grocery store? Some do it mechanically, while others do it with passion.
Do you have a passion for knowing God so well that you feel his breath on your face when you spend time with him? I am sure I would get many answers if I were to ask this question. Some would think I was judging them, while others would get so excited because of their passion for God and His plan for their lives. They can’t wait to talk to others about Him and what He is showing him.
Show me your appetite and I will know your passion. I pray that if it isn’t for the things of God that you will make a decision to make that your goal. We can’t live without him, so passionately seek after Him and let him show you the way, the truth, and the life that He wants to give you. I guarantee that it will be better than any music or food that you could possibly desire. As the scripture in Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
