LITTLE IS MUCH WHEN GOD IS IN IT
There is an old song that has a chorus, “Little is much when God is in it. Labor not for wealth or fame. There’s a crown, and you can win it, if you go in Jesus’ name.” ©1993 -Gather Vocal Band. I believe this song was inspired by scripture.
There is a story in scripture in John chapter 6 about a little boy that came with his lunch of five barley loaves and two small fishes to see Jesus. There was a large crowd of people, and as usual, after a while everyone was hungry.
Jesus was told the people were hungry and his reply in verse 5 was, “…Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?”
Isn’t that just like us when a major problem confronts us? How will we take care of it? Where will the money come from? Jesus was testing his disciples to see what they would do.
Andrew had a small amount of faith. He said in verse 9, “There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?”
In other words, what could anyone do to feed five thousand people with so little. The lad had given his lunch to the disciple because he had childlike faith. He had seen the miracles that day, and was willing to give “his little” to Jesus. He did not have much, but it was all he had.
And what happened? Jesus took the boy’s loaves and fishes, gave thanks, and it was multiplied, and everyone was fed. In fact, there were twelve baskets full left over!
Remember, “Little is much when God is in it. Do not be concerned about what you have or have not. When you give what you do have to God, he will bless it and cause it to multiply.
I have seen this with my own eyes regarding food when there was not enough for a table of nine to feed. It multiplied in front of my eyes. I had given what I had to God and God did the rest by multiplying it. Everyone ate and there were leftovers.
