PRAYING IN TONGUES – LESSON 3
THE SECRET OF THE SNOW
In lesson 1 two days ago, I spoke of the importance of praying in tongues frequently, also called praying in the Spirit or the Holy Ghost. Today we will build upon that premise.
In my early morning “prayer closet” I typically spend about an hour and a half in prayer, the majority of which is spent praying in tongues. I do not know what I am saying, but I know it is important, else the Holy Ghost would not have me praying it. He knows what it is and that is the important matter.
About twenty years ago I attended an intercessory prayer conference where Lynn Hammond, a renowned intercessor, was the speaker/teacher. She mentioned how she might pray in tongues for two or three hours. It was so “automatic” that she wondered if she was doing it out of habit. Yet, she knew God had a purpose in it.
I learned of the value of this a short time later at another prayer conference with Pastor Richard Gazowski from San Francisco. He had that same kind of prayer life in tongues. Holy Spirit showed him why so much prayer in tongues was not only important but also had a long-range effectiveness.
It was found and understood in “the secret of the snow.” The winter snow falls on the valley and the mountain alike. When the summer heat comes, the snow in the valley has long been melted away. Dry times can occur making growth difficult. But God has a provision. The snowbanks on the mountain tops begin to slowly melt. (Yes, I have seen snow on the mountain tops in July.) This sends trickling streams of water down to the valley to refresh the growth of plants.
In this picture, we see the many hours invested in praying in the Holy Ghost. We might even be in a “mountain top” place spiritually where all is well. We have banked our prayer in heaven and heaven does not forget them.
When the dry valley experience comes, the “banked” prayers on God’s “mountain” are released in a most timely manner to bring answers to the prayers and to bring refreshing.
Remember, that God’s timing is not the same as man’s timing. He knows exactly when to release the refreshing waters of the word.
Jude verse 20 says, “But ye, beloved, building yourselves on your most holy faith, (by) praying in the Holy Ghost.”
Just as “the secret of the snow” brings life to the valley, so also “the secret of prayer in tongues” builds us up in faith. The prayers are effectual regardless of whether you understand them.
Pray frequently in tongues. Pray very much in tongues. Send your prayers into heaven’s bank.
