HISTORICAL PERSECUTION OF BELIEVERS – LESSON 14

THE RCC WAGES WARS

The Protestant Reformation had gained millions of converts across all of Europe by the early 1600’s.  The Roman Catholic Church (RCC) went all out to exterminate them. Since it had originated in Germany, that country, along with Spain and Italy, bore the brunt of the conflict.

The RCC declared war against the large Protestant populations of these three countries. The Pope enlisted the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, to raise an army to invade these countries in war to exterminate the Protestant movement. The church committed its vast wealth in support of the war. The Pope gave the emperor the following support:

1. Two hundred thousand crowns of money

2. Pledged support for 12,000 foot-soldiers and 5,000 more on horseback.

3. One-half of the income from all the clergy of the entire empire.

4. Allowed the Emperor to pledge liens on all the abbey land for up to 500,000 more crowns.

This money was likely more than the total wealth of some entire countries. With this support, Charles V raised a formidable army which he personally commanded. The Protestant princes formed a powerful army of confederates led by the elector of Saxony and the landgrave of Hesse. War was engaged quite fiercely. Ultimately the papal-supported army of Charles won the war. The Protestant leaders were captured. What then ensued were some of the worst tortures on Protestants of Germany, Italy, and Spain that could ever be imagined. Many hid in caves with rocks for their bed and wild herbs as their only food; those were the fortunate ones.

Shortly after that the emperor made war against the Protestant King of Sweden where he burned down churches, burned people’s houses, destroyed properties, massacred ministers, killed Sweden’s soldiers, hanged the townsmen, raped the women, smothered to death the children and so forth. This was all done in “the name of God and the church (RCC).”

Jesus taught us that “love” is the greatest commandment and the mark of a true Christian. I Corinthians 13 expounds on it. The brutality, the hate, and the corruption of the Roman Catholic Church testifies against it proving that it is not of God, is not Christian, and is dominated by “the spirit of anti-Christ.” It stands today as the apostate church.

Many Catholic parishioners have been misled to believe it is the true church and are in mortal danger due to deceptive indoctrination. Nevertheless, there are millions of parishioners who are true believers on Jesus Christ and their faith is in Him alone (and not Mary or the RCC) which grants their eternal salvation.

A MERRY HEART

There was a song written in 1954 by Stuart Hamblen that played when I was a young girl. It was called “Open up your Heart (and let the Sunshine in).” The words of the song had a big influence on me. The words go like this:

“Mommy told me something a little girl should know.

It’s all about the devil and I learned to hate him so.

She said he causes trouble when you let him in your room.

And he’ll never ever leave you if your heart is full of gloom.

Chorus:

So let the sunshine in, face it with a grin.

Smilers never lose,

And frowners never win.

So, let the sunshine in, face it with a grin.

Open up your heart, and let the sunshine in.

Often this little chorus and song will run through my mind. Because of that song, I learned very young the importance of smiling. A smile can chase the clouds away. A smile can ease the pressures of everyday life. A smile makes you feel better. The devil hates praise my friends, and we can use a smile and praise as a weapon to “keep the devil out of our room!”

In Proverbs 17:22 it says, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”  It is obvious to me that someone that never smiles doesn’t have a merry heart. Gloom brings doom, but laughter, smiling, and the joy of the Lord bring healing to us.

So, let the little jingle of this song bring you some smiles today. There is always something to smile about.  Someone needs your smile today as much as you do!

The Trail to Trouble.jpg

Teaching children to listen and obey is often a difficult task. This short story is about Jason who learned the hard way about not listening when he went down a trail to trouble.

Christian principles are taught about praying and obedience.

One person that ordered it said "Our grandson has to have it read to him every night before going to bed."

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

Do not be deceived. All those that live godly in Christ will suffer persecution and afflictions. To not suffer these things is an indicator that you are either not a believer or that you have taken a turn off the path and are following the voice of the evil one. Examine your heart to see if you are in the faith.

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

We read in God’s Word of how it was the flattering words of affirmation; But mostly of deceptive enticement that caused the serpent (the old devil) to gain an audience with Eve. (Genesis 3) Just be careful and closely evaluate if there’s any motives of those you come in contact with. Even more so of the ones you’re closely connected to. We’ve all seen how flattering words can and often does brighten one’s day; For it makes you feel better about yourself...As flattery will always give your ego and your confidence a great big boost. However, you may want to ask yourself this question...Is the person saying these great sounding words of flattery truly committed to you and to your success? I’ve found through years of living...That a great majority of folks do not really care about others successes, their feelings or their well being. No, that’s not a negative confession; It’s just the plain raw truth. It’s evident in every walk of life that flattery can often bring big troubles. But, I’m sure we could all agree that a genuine heartfelt compliment is always greatly appreciated. It would be in your best interest to learn to discern the difference between a true compliment; And phony flattery that most always has ulterior motives in mind. Have you ever noticed how the same words spoken from different people can come across to the receiver of them...Very differently? Why?? It’s usually because of the hidden motives behind their words; As well as the tone in which they were spoken to you. So learn to discern; For the words spoken to you will be a real compliment meant to encourage you and to uplift you...OR they will be phony words meant to bribe you and to get you in their court for all the wrong reasons; To deceive you in order to use you. Know the difference.
