THE BIG BAD WOLF
Most children and adults have heard the story of the Three Little Pigs. The big bad wolf was after the pigs to eat them up. One built a house of straw, one of sticks, and one of bricks. The wolf blew down the houses made of straw and sticks and tried to blow down the one made of bricks, but he could “not huff and puff and blow that house down.”
This is a children’s story, but there is a wolf that is real, and he goes about seeking sheep to devour. Jesus told a parable about this in John 10 where he said in vs. 10-13, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is a hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.” Jesus also talked about false prophets in Matthew 7:15 where it says, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Satan will use anything that he can to destroy the human race. He looks for sheep to devour. He can dress up in a fancy suit and even preach from a pulpit, but underneath that suit is a wolf. He is a fake and does not care for the sheep.
We must know the word of God to know when someone is trying to teach us truth or to devour us. In Matthew 7:16 it says, “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?” He goes on to say that a corrupt tree can not bring forth good fruit.
We are to watch and pray constantly that we aren’t led astray by “wolves” or false teachers that try to devour us and destroy us. Remember their “tree” will not have good fruit on it. It will be like the tree of knowledge of good and evil that was in the Garden of Eden. Pleasant to the eyes, but when we take of it, we receive death.
Don’t be fooled. Study, pray, and ask the Lord if those that are teaching you and wanting to guide you are of God, or if they are like the “big bad wolf” that wants to destroy you. When we build our lives on the foundation of the “rock” which is Jesus, then like the wise pig, the wolf cannot “blow our house down.”
