LOURDES AND ITS MESSAGES
Our Blessed Mother appeared
in a radiant light
to St. Bernadette on Feb. 11, 1858.
Many know of the healing waters at Lourdes,
but did you know what Our Lady said?
And how her messages can help you live more closely
to Jesus each day, especially during Lent?
Our Lady's words heal not just our bodies,
but also our souls and our broken world!
Inspiring us to look deeper at ourselves, consider these questions:
- What do I need to do to prepare myself for Jesus' coming?
- Is my soul clean, or is it time to go to confession?
- Do I need to be more reverent when I make the sign of the cross?
- Do I live joyfully, or am I always searching for something more to make me “feel” happy?
- What kind of penances should I adopt each day?
- Who do I need to pray for?

PRAYER FOR
DIVINE WISDOM
O gracious Master, infuse in our hearts
the spotless light of Your Divine Wisdom
and open the eyes of our mind that
we may understand the teachings of Your Gospel.
Instill in us also the fear of Your blessed commandments,
so that having curbed all carnal desires,
we may lead a spiritual life,
both thinking and doing everything to please You.
For You, O Christ, our God, are the enlightenment
of our souls and bodies;
and to You we render glory,
together with Your eternal Father, and
with Your all holy, life-creating Spirit,
now and ever, and forever.
Amen.

HUMOR HIGHLIGHT
DON'T DESPAIR
Sitting by the window of her convent,
Sister Barbara opened a letter from home one evening.
Inside she found a $100 bill from her parents.
Sister Barbara smiled at the gesture.
As she read the letter by the window,
she noticed a shabbily dressed stranger
leaning against the lamp post below.
Quickly, she wrote, “Don’t despair, Sister Barbara,”
on a paper, wrapped the $100 bill in it,
got the man’s attention and tossed it out the window to him.
The stranger picked it up,
and with a puzzled expression and a tip of his hat,
went off down the street.
The next day, Sister Barbara was told that a man was at her door,
insisting on seeing her.
She went down, and found the stranger waiting.
Without a word, he handed her a huge wad of $100 bills.
“What’s this?” she asked.
“That’s the $8,000 you have coming Sister,” he replied.
“Don’t Despair paid 80-to-1.”

GOSPEL READING REFLECTION
For MARCH 26, 2023
FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
Year A - Jn 11:1-45
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Death and hope in our own resurrection.
“Master, the one you love is ill.”
When Jesus heard this he said,
“This illness is not to end in death,
but is for the glory of God,
that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
- The death of Lazarus was an evil that deprived him of life, grieved his sisters, and robbed the world of the good he could have done. Christ restores to him the human good that is lacking: life itself.
- This is an example of how God draws good out of evil, thereby giving glory to Himself by benefiting man.
- Jesus’ love was so palpable that everyone who experienced it saw it as unique to himself or herself. This is why Mary can send word, “Master, the one you love is ill.”
- Why did Jesus wait to go to Bethany? Perhaps for two reasons. One was that he had people to serve right in front of him where he was. Another was he wanted there to be no doubt that Lazarus was really dead.
- Jesus did not cold-bloodedly “use” Lazarus’ death to teach a lesson. He felt the mourning of the sisters deeply and was angered by the spectacle of death: “he became perturbed and deeply troubled.” He was himself overcome in grief: “Jesus wept.”

ANSWER TO QUIZ
Fr. Dwight Longenecker
explains the
Green Scapular's history...
and the ways Catholics
"used it as a "magic wand."
Along the way, he demonstrates the true power, beauty,
and role that "small-t" traditional devotions
play in our faith lives.

family member or friend,

The Passion: Reflections on the
Suffering and Death of Jesus Christ
by Paul Thigpen, Ph.D
| |
Find forty daily reflections on the
passion and death of Our Lord
in this devotional.
Each reflection includes
A scriptural text
A meditation
A brief prayer
and
An excerpt from the visions of two celebrated Catholic mystics:
Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774–1824)
and Venerable Maria de Agreda (1602–1665).
You’ll watch with Jesus as He prays in the Garden of Gethsemane
… grieve beside Him as He stands trial
…climb with Him on the way to Calvary
… mourn with His Blessed Mother at the foot of the Cross.
Do you want to advance from virtue to virtue, from grace to grace?
These are the rewards, insists St. Bonaventure,
of those who meditate frequently on the sufferings of Christ.
| |
We pray you will be excited to embark on purposeful
spiritual reading as a way to build a more prayer-filled,
Christ centered life.
