WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY
@ 9:15 AM (contemporary praise, lower level)
@ 10:30 AM (blended traditional, sanctuary)
LAITY SUNDAY IS THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14!

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” - Mark 10:45

On Laity Sunday, we celebrate that we are all called, laity as well as clergy, to go and make disciples in a world so desperately in need of hope through our humble service. Jesus modeled the process for us in Mark 10:45. When we reach out and receive new people by building relationships with them, are we also offering opportunities for them to commit themselves to Jesus Christ? If we are to reclaim the movement and truly #SeeAllThePeople , we must be harbingers of HOPE—the core process of discipleship, the method of Methodism:
H ospitality— O ffering Christ— P urpose— E ngagement.

NEW SERMON SERIES
Google? Answers.com? Wikipedia? Where do modern people find wisdom? For centuries people looked to the Book of Proverbs to learn the truth about God, moral behavior and the meaning of life. This early Old Testament collection of sayings and instructions offers wisdom from the perspective of people of faith thousands of years before our time. Join us for five weeks this Fall as we seek ancient wisdom for some of our modern problems.

YOUNG ADULT CONNECTIONS STUDY
STARTS OCTOBER 28!
Singles, Couples, and Parents with Young Children
We have met, picked our first study, and are excited to invite you to join us as we go through Max Lucado’s 5 week study on “Anxious for Nothing”.   Our study is very casual, come as you can.   Grab your coffee from the Well, come, relax and talk with us.   You do not need to be present for all 5 weeks. Nothing to purchase, everything needed will be supplied.

When:   Starts Sunday 10/28 and continues on Sundays at 9:15am
Where: The Upper Room
In Between: Click on the link below to share information/ updates and stay connected with one another.

Description of the book:
Americans especially know about living in perpetual anxiety. According to one research program, anxiety-related issues are the number one mental health problem among women and are second only to alcohol and drug abuse among men. Stress-related ailments cost the nation $300 billion every year in medical bills and lost productivity.

"The news about our anxiety is enough to make us anxious," says   Max Lucado . But there's a prescription for dealing with it. In   Anxious for Nothing , Lucado invites readers into a study of Philippians 4:6-7.

"With His help you will learn to face the calamities of life. You'll learn how to talk yourself off the ledge. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you will learn to view bad news through the lens of sovereignty; to discern the lies of Satan and tell yourself the truth. You will manifest a gentleness that is evident to others. Anxiety comes with life. But it doesn't have to dominate your life."

We look forward to seeing you on the 28th!
MEN'S BREAKFAST!
In the church today, many men find themselves confused about what it actually means to be a man. Our culture does little to help. The result is a generation of men who struggle to embrace their responsibilities, roles, and the purpose for which God created them. Join the Wayne Church Men’s Breakfast Thursday mornings, October, 18 th, November 1 st & 15 th and December 6 th at 6:15am in The Well as we tackle this subject using Mark Batterson’s “Play The Man.”   Each lesson provides practical truths for immediate application so that men everywhere can be the brothers, husbands, fathers, and leaders God created them to be.
SEPTEMBER LEADERSHIP MOMENT!
Since learning of the news about Janet French’s retirement as Christian Education Director, Leadership has been considering the path forward and what that looks like in regard to our children’s ministry program. We realize that this is a time of great change which affects the most important part of our church, our children. We know that one of the ways that we love is when we lift up our children, teach them the ways of God, and seek to be faithful examples of Christ in their presence.

We also realize that the opinions of the parents are extremely important. Considering that, an email survey with questions about their views on the future of our children’s ministry program has been sent to the parents of children ages 0-10. We will soon be hosting a gathering where there will be an opportunity to address the survey questions in small groups with members of the leadership team. We hope that at least one parent from each family would be able to attend. However, if you are unable to attend we still request that you complete the survey so that all opinions can be taken into consideration. This is a big step in helping leadership move forward with how we can build on the legacy that Janet has built over the past 22 years.

Thank You,
Lindsey McGeehan

CRADLES TO CRAYONS CLOTHING & TOY DRIVE STARTS NOW!!
Wayne Church is partnering with Cradles to Crayons in Conshohocken to collect and deliver donations for drop off. Philadelphia ranks #1 consistently as the city with the largest deepest poverty (family of four living on $12k or less).  As some of you know, this grass roots organization is remarkable filling 400 to 500 orders every week.    They are in particular need of NEW items for the children   (underwear, socks, PJs for boys & girls:    sizes    (Infant to 24 months, then 1T, 2T all the way to 14/16)  We are also going to extend our collection to any gently used items (coats are a biggie!!) to see if we can make an even bigger dent, like toys, books, shoes and clothes.    Another GREAT suggestion Cradles offered is to donate KOHL’s cash certificates that are given out to customers. Together we can make a difference in the lives of those in need. Look for the collection bin in the Office Lobby. We will be collecting through November 18.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD!
Bring the love of Christ to children across the globe by filling a shoebox! Samaritan’s Purse project, Operation Christmas Child, collects shoeboxes filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items and delivers them to children in need around the world to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way. For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received. Last year Samaritan’s Purse, distributed 11 million shoeboxes worldwide! Look for the display in the office lobby to pick up a shoebox to fill. They will be collected on Sunday, November 11. Thank you for making a difference in the life of a child!
2019 COSTA RICA MISSION TRIP!

Duties are handing out food bags and greeting visitors. (You can bring a book, tablet, or laptop to pass the time!) This is a vital ministry! Our volunteers are the face of our church to those who are in need, and your friendly face can go a long way toward making our recipients feel comfortable and welcome!

3RD QUARTER FINANCE UPDATE
For the first nine months of 2018, revenue was in-line with the budget at $577,000.   Expenses were also in-line with the budget with the exception of property.   Property expenditures are expected to exceed the budget by approximately $75,000 in 2018.   The key property improvements in 2018 include The Well, office and nursery renovation / relocation, and landscaping / tree removal.   Church reserves have been utilized in 2017 (sanctuary renewal) and 2018 to help fund property improvements.   As a result, the reserve account currently stands at $133,000 versus a balance of $383,000 at the beginning of 2017.
ALICE TRAINING, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27 @ 9:30AM!
The threat of an active shooter attack in a church is rare but very real.   And it is our responsibility to be as prepared as we possibly can for such an unfortunate event.   Therefore, we ask you to come together on Saturday, October 27, at 9:30am in the sanctuary for a very important training event.   Mark Beideman from the ALICE Training Institute (Alert Lockdown Inform Counter Evacuate) will teach us what to do in an active shooter scenario.   ALICE believes that individuals must be trained in proactive response options, rather than a passive, mandated, one size fits all response. Everyone should have the knowledge and skills to survive when shots are fired which can be achieved by training as many people as possible and implementing training in drill form.   See you there!
