LENT: OLD TESTAMENT PERSPECTIVES
The Hebrew Bible, our Old Testament, were the scriptures that shaped Jesus life, they shaped the early church, and they are the foundation of our own faith. During our 40 days of Lent we remember Jesus’ 40 days of fasting and temptation in the wilderness. How did he respond to the tempting of the devil? He quoted the scriptures of the Old Testament. While on the cross where did Jesus turn for words of prayer? He turned to the Hebrew Bible citing poetry from Psalm 22. In the Old Testament the early church found words that gave them life. During our journey through lent we will be searching the Old Testament scriptures listening for God to speak to us through it. Join us as we journey through Lent, seeking perspective from the Old Testament.

VIRTUAL COFFEE WITH THE PASTOR
When: Mondays, February 22 and March 1 at 7pm
There are few greater joys in the life of the church than receiving new members into our family. Being the Church through a pandemic is no exception, it just moves us to do things differently. The purpose hasn’t changed -- the time together is designed to get to know the Pastor, explore personal faith, Methodism, and how we seek to express these beliefs here at Wayne. However this winter we will not be in the Upper Room at Wayne Church, we will gather on ZOOM. If you wish to explore the possibility of membership or wish to attend our next set of classes to learn more about the church, please email Pastor Tom below to get signed up!
LADIES NEXT BOOK CHOICE
Looking for some good reading material to help get through the rest of this cold, snowy winter? The next book up for discussion is "The Giver of Stars," by Jojo Moyes. Set in Depression-era America, the novel chronicles the lives of female librarians in Baileyville, a town in Kentucky’s Appalachian Mountains. The real-life WPA Pack Horse Librarians of Kentucky program, part of the New Deal and a project spotlighted by Eleanor Roosevelt as beneficial to women and children, lasted from 1935-1943, delivering books via horseback to rural inhabitants of Kentucky. The women face the adversity of a town hellbent on determining what women can and can’t do, both in their public and private lives. Themes of friendship, the effects of misogyny, corporate greed, inequality, and rebirth fill the pages of this novel. We will gather in April to discuss. Stay tuned for those details!

STRENGTH TO LOVE
When: Tuesdays at 7pm on Zoom
Active participants wanted for discussions about civil rights, discrimination, and racism. We will be using Strength to Love by Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. to drive productive and meaningful conversations and actions so desperately needed in our chaotic and divisive times. Written by the preeminent leader of the civil rights movement, Strength to Love will provide sound guidance based upon Christian principles. Because no institution (including organized religion) or person is exempt from examination in this historical set of sermons, Strength to Love will challenge everyone, regardless of background or politics. Mark Evangelista will lead this study, please contact him below to get signed up for these important discussions.
MEN'S BREAKFAST ON ZOOM IN 2021
When: 1st & 3rd Thursdays @ 6:30am
Next date: March 4
Please join us from your home as we study the Gospel of Mark. The Gospel of Mark chronicles Jesus’s journey from Galilee to Jerusalem. Along the way, the Messiah gathers a ragged band of disciples. As crowds grow and dwindle on the road to Jerusalem, only a few stick by the Suffering Savior on the road of discipleship.

In this 11-part series on the Gospel of Mark, author and speaker Francis Chan invites us to walk with him along the ancient ways of the Master. Tracing the steps of Jesus and the Twelve through Israel, Francis explores the major themes of the Gospel of Mark, and asks: Are we willing to take this journey to embrace discipleship? Email Pastor Tom below to get set up for this next study.
WEDNESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY
When: Wednesdays at 9:30am
This year, the Wednesday morning Bible study (meeting weekly on Zoom) will do an in depth look at the Letter to the Hebrews. Whereas Paul saw himself primarily as an apostle to the gentiles, the unknown author of this letter preaches the gospel to believers who have come to Christ out of the context of Judaism. Join us as we explore how the Israelite tradition informs our understanding of who Jesus is and what He is calling His followers into. New members should contact Katie McNabb to get the Zoom sign in.
