Dear St. John’s Parishioners,
The Vestry election is approaching, where we will elect 4 members for a 3-year term starting in January. Vestry members attend monthly meetings, oversee Sunday services once per quarter, and occasionally participate in ad hoc meetings. Your input is encouraged during meetings to help address issues at St. John's.
We value diversity on the Vestry, with members representing different church groups and perspectives. Please consider whether you or someone you know should join.
To nominate, submit a form by October 21. Elections will be held on November 10. Contact the election committee for more information.
Faithfully,
Toni, Erin, Shirley, and Clayton

Dana Bircher McClellan Scholarship Fund
|
As many of you know, Dana Bircher McClellan passed away suddenly, unexpectedly, and much too young on August 18, 2024. As so nicely summarized by Dana’s daughter at her memorial service, Dana will be remembered as "intelligent, generous, and cool," among many other things. Colleagues and friends who have had the privilege of knowing Dana have established a scholarship fund at Clemson University, her undergraduate alma mater, to honor Dana’s memory. This scholarship fund will continue to deliver on Dana's spirit of service, compassion, and generosity.
If you would like to join us in the effort, the details are below. Donations are tax deductible, and Clemson will provide an acknowledgement and receipt.
How to make a gift:
Click the button below or call the Annual Giving Office Monday thru Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm. Please note that your gift should be designated for the “Dana McClellan Memorial Holding Account.”

Foyer Groups September 28th
|
Foyer Groups are randomly selected groups of about 10 people who meet monthly in participants' homes to share meals throughout the school year. Each month, a host chooses the date and prepares the main course, while the rest of the group brings complementary dishes.
Dine-out Groups are similar, with randomly selected groups of about 10 people who also meet monthly, but at restaurants instead of homes. The group will decide their meeting dates for the year upfront, and participants will take turns choosing restaurants and making reservations. Everyone covers their own meal costs.
To kick off both groups, we'll have a combined potluck event at the Conlan's home on September 28. For more information or to sign up, please contact Shirley de la Canal by clicking the button below.

| The Wednesday Night Book Club resumes our regular schedule with The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy. We will meet on September 25 from 6:00-7:00pm in Room 305 at the church. |
The mysterious figure known as the Scarlet Pimpernel, sworn to rescue helpless men, women, and children from their doom during the Reign of Terror; his implacable foe, the French agent Chauvelin, relentlessly hunting him down; and lovely Marguerite Blakeney, a beautiful French exile married to an English lord and caught in a terrible conflict of loyalties—all play their parts in a suspenseful tale that ranges from the squalid slums of Paris to the aristocratic salons of London, from intrigue on a great English country estate to the final denouement on the cliffs of the French coast.
