SUNDAY, JANUARY 30, 2022
SERVICE TIMES
7:30/8:45/11:15am in the Nave

IN PERSON WORSHIP UPDATE

PLEASE NOTE: Masks are now required at St. John’s for all people regardless of their vaccinated status when gathering indoors.

If you are concerned about coming to church and being in a crowd while worshiping, keep in mind that the 7:30 Sunday service and the noon Tuesday service typically have a lower attendance.

Sunday Morning Nursery Closed – Please be advised that the Sunday morning Nursery will be closed for the foreseeable future. The combination of labor shortages and pandemic precautions already posed a challenge over the last few months. This, coupled with budget cuts at the parish, makes a suspension of the nursery necessary. We will re-consider opening the nursery in the Fall, if circumstances and need permit.  If you have any questions, please contact Matt Williams at the church.
8:45AM LIVE ONLINE WORSHIP

FYI...
DO YOU KNOW……
about opportunities for supporting the St. John’s Endowment?
A few questions might come to mind

What is the financial foundation of the St. John’s Endowment?
Parishioners at St. John’s are encouraged to develop a deep connection with God, and to grow in faith through a variety of spiritual practices, e.g., prayer, worship. Another meaningful connection is through giving. In addition to annual pledging, gifts may be directed to the Endowment. These gifts provide the financial foundation of the St. John’s Endowment, a 501(c)(3) organization, thus providing the opportunity to invest these funds and use the earnings to support the mission of the church now and in the future.

How are donors recognized?
All donations are appreciated and must be accepted by the Board of Trustees. The Legacy Leader designation is given to those donors who name St. John’s Endowment in their Planned Giving (for example, wills, insurance, IRA’s) or who make Gifts-in-Life (usually cash or stocks) valued at $5,000 or more. With their permission, names of Legacy Leaders are recognized in a wall display and on the St. John’s website for their support of the Endowment, with amounts remaining confidential.
How do I become a Legacy Leader?
If you are interested in becoming a Legacy Leader and supporting this important work, please contact Skip Tappy skip@hoodhargett.com or George Sheild georgesheild@aol.com

How can I learn more?
More information can be accessed through the St. John’s website https://www.stje.org/endowment

Also, please “stay tuned” and look for more information and updates regarding your St. John’s Endowment in future e-blasts.

OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES
New Approach to the St. John’s 2022 Souper Bowl Party
Because of COVID, the 2022 Souper Bowl Party at St. John’s has been cancelled. However, instead of providing a special dinner for the Roof Above men at St. John’s during this year’s Souper Bowl Party, St. John’s would like to provide funding to Roof Above to provide a special meal for the men as they watch the Super Bowl at Roof Above. While St. John’s will not need homemade chili and other foods provided by parishioners for previous Souper Bowl Parties, the Outreach Committee is requesting donations to pay for this special meal at Roof Above. If you would like to contribute to the cost of this special meal, please use REALM to donate online through the ‘Roof Above’ fund. You could also put a check in the offering plate or mail a check to St. Johns with the memo description “Roof Above Meal'. Any amount will be very much appreciated!
Crisis Assistance Ministry has temporarily closed to in-person volunteers due to the current Covid spike. We assume this means they are also currently closed to donations. Until we are able to verify this, please hold on to your donations of clothing and soft household goods.

Crisis Assistance Ministry (CAM), which St. John’s parishioners have generously supported for over 30 years, is our Outreach Committee’s Ministry Partner featured this month. Please click on the link below to see the video Carol Hardison, CEO of CAM, along with one of the individuals they helped, produced for St. John’s outlining CAM’s immediate needs.
The Charlotte Observer recently ran an article about organizations offering assistance for paying rent in Charlotte. Crisis Assistance Ministry (CAM) was referenced in this article as the “lead agency for emergency financial assistance in Mecklenburg County".
If you would like to to donate funds to CAM for eviction relief, please use REALM to donate online through the 'Outreach Fund' or mail a check to St. Johns with the memo description “CAM eviction relief”. Any amount will be very much appreciated!
Merry Oaks Elementary has thanked St John’s for the generous contribution of over 50 winter coats for the disadvantaged children of Merry Oaks. The staff has asked for donations of coats for the 4th and 5th graders in larger sizes. They are asking for coats in sizes 14/16 and even 18/20. A donation bin is placed in the downstairs reception area. Thank you!
