Chester Library Lunch & Learn
Monday, May 4, 2026
With Sue Underwood
Topic: “Landscaping with Native Plants
to Attract Wildlife”
We’ve all heard about the shocking decline in the numbers of species of birds, insects, amphibians, mammals and fish due to habitat destruction and climate change. What can each of us do on a local scale to help reverse the effect on our native wildlife. Why is it important to help our wildlife who are experiencing such distress?
Sue Underwood has been a “backyard birder” since she was 9 years old and her love of nature grew into a love of plants and gardening. She was a former Master Gardener in Morris County’s first ever class, and became interested in native plants five years ago after reading many accounts of the effects habitat loss was incurring and the decline for wildlife it caused.
Sue is passionate about native plants and the easy way to help improve her property by removing non-native plants and adding native species to increase a more beneficial habitat for the local wildlife. She will share what species you can use, where to acquire native plants from, and ideas so you can do your part in providing the sought after habitat our wildlife needs to rebound.
To Register for this Lunch & Learn program please go to the Chester Library website chesterlib.org on Monday, April 27 at 9:00 a.m. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa at 908-879-2202.
