City Passes Demolition Ordinance

The Spokesman-Review photo

The Spokane City Council passed " An ordinance enhancing protections for historic structures and districts" by a vote of 6-1 at its usual weekly meeting, Monday night.

Property owners concerned about the loss of Spokane's historic structures may now unite by a simple majority to slow development or demolition of significant buildings.

The first part of town likely to do so will be one of Spokane's oldest neighborhoods, historic Browne's Addition (which is home to the historic 1898 Campbell House pictured), whose assembled residents applauded passage of laws Monday night aimed at giving residents a stronger voice to oppose the kind of work that has leveled several homes there in recent years.

We sat down with Judy after she got back home to Spokane to find out what a first-time participant thought of the effort.

Record Home Prices

Home prices jumped to all-time fourth-quarter highs in almost two-thirds of U.S. cities as buyers battled for a record-low supply of listings.

The Spokane-Spokane Valley metro area was among those posting a record high for the quarter.

Rob Higgins, executive director of the Spokane Association of Realtors, said the all-time quarterly record for the area came in 2017's third quarter with an NRA-survey median sale price of $229,200.
