Home Sales Rise

Journal of Business photo

Spokane-area single-family home purchases are expected to surpass the record reached in 2005, three years before the start of the Great Recession, says Rob Higgins, executive vice president of the Spokane Association of Realtors.

Last year, 8,137 single-family homes sales were reported through the Spokane Multiple Listing Service, up from 7,601 in 2016, Higgins says.

"Even projecting at a conservative rate of a 3-percent to 5-percent increase, Spokane County is still going to top its highest mark ever for home sales," he says.

The city of Spokane saw the largest increase, to $515.7 million from $410.9 million, for a mammoth rise of 25.5 percent.

Of that 2017 total, new construction was valued at $312.4 million.

Comment on  Manufactured Housing

ManufacturedHomes.com photo

Manufactured housing comprises nearly eight-percent of the housing inventory in Washington state.

HUD (the department of Housing and Urban Development) has launched a review of its manufactured housing regulations to identify those that may be ineffective, overly burdensome, or excessively costly.

Comments are due February 26th.

HUD is asking those with expertise and/or interest in manufactured housing to their views about current manufactured housing regulations and what they can do to improve them.

Legal Hotline: Antitrust and Social Media

NEW!

Your Washington REALTORS® Legal Hotline lawyer Annie Fitzsimmons (pictured) would like you to know that real estate brokers must maintain a constant vigil against inadvertent violations of antitrust laws.

It is unlawful for a broker to be involved in any communication or action that results in price (commission) fixing, fixing of commission splits, fixing of offered services/terms or boycott of competitors or vendors.

Read Annie's excellent article on antitrust and social media online here.

Legal Hotline: Outside the Firm

NEW!

Washington REALTORS® Legal Hotline lawyer Annie Fitzsimmons talks about a tricky question she receives quite a bit:

If broker wants to buy/sell property, can broker run that transaction on their own without putting their firm on notice?

See the seven-minute video online here:

Can brokers wanting to buy or sell property, handle the transaction separately from their firm?

Under All is the Land

The Spokane Association of REALTORS® was founded in the Hall of the Doges above Davenport's Restaurant in 1911.

At its centennial in 2011, the association commissioned this video to tell its story.  It was released on DVD at the time (pictured above), now available - for the first time - online.

It's an uplifting half-hour about our city and one of its oldest and proudest organizations.

The program begins and ends with the opening sentence of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics: "Under all is the land."
