Education Excellent and Quarterly Meeting

Mark your calendar now and plan to attend the first Education Excellence and Quarterly Membership Meeting of our association for 2017!

Thursday, March 16th
at Center Place Event Center
Spokane Valley

We have Sabrina Jones-Schroeder confirmed to teach her excellent Purchase & Sale Agreement class.  This class will be considered a "wrap-up" for those who did not complete it during the required four year time frame of 2013-2016.  If you've already taken this class in the past four years, you may also take this class to count towards the next required four year time frame of 2017-2020.  We will keep track of which requirement you are meeting.  Or, you can always just join us for lunch and the quarterly membership meeting.

The new Purchase & Sale Agreement class requirement for 2017-2020 requirement begins on March 1, 2017, and goes through December 31, 2020.

Did you know there are six new forms and changes to 20 of the existing forms in the statewide forms system? You will walk away with an understanding of these new forms and existing forms revisions. This is a must have PSA class in using the most up-to-date information!"

The Voice for Real Estate

A tax reform plan by the House Ways & Means Committee would eliminate the property tax deduction, double the standard deduction, and lower tax rates.

Also being considered is repeal of 1031 tax-deferred exchanges. REALTORS® expressed concerns over the changes at a meeting two weeks ago with leaders of the Ways & Means Committee.

The video also looks at the penalties imposed on two real estate brokerages for marketing service agreements they entered into with a lender. The federal government says the agreements were unlawful referral-fee arrangements.

Other video stories: the latest home-price trends, the importance of pets in household housing decisions, and recognition NAR has received for its energy-efficient Washington building.

Emergency Ordinance Renewed

The Spokane Board of County Commissioners, this week, renewed its Emergency Ordinance, which prevents a building permit moratorium in response to the State Supreme Court Hirst Decision.

Each renewal lasts six-months.  Commissioners intend to continue renewing their Emergency Ordinance until some other remedy is found.

Spokane County recently released a flow chart for evaluation of building permit applications reliant on new permit exempt wells.

That document (pictured above) is online here.

REMEMBER: Washington REALTORS® strongly recommends that you NOT ANSWER any questions your clients ask you related to water rights on any property.  Instead, refer your clients to Spokane County - the legal authority for all water rights issues in the SAR service area.
