2018 SAR President Ken Sax (left, photo above) talks real estate with host Kent Adams (right, photo above), this week, on Spokane Talks Online.

Ken and Kent talk about wire fraud and fake listings -  both real challenges in the industry across the country.  Ken also responds to the question why he chose to run for association president, addresses the current seller's market, and why winter is a great season to sell.

SAR Donates to Blessings

SAR photo

If you attended the SAR Christmas Party back in December, you may have contributed to the raffle which raised $8,000 for our 2017 designated charity - Blessings Under the Bridge.

A check for that amount was presented to co-founders Mike and Jessica Kovac (in middle, photo above) at our 2018 Installation of Officers Luncheon. The check was presented by event chair Stephanie Peterson, Windermere City Group (left, photo above) and 2017 SAR President Jennifer Valerien, RE/MAX Inland Empire (right, photo above).

The Kovacs founded Blessings Under the Bridge a decade ago as, what they call, the city's largest homeless outreach program.

Protect your Devices

A pair of CPU flaws known as Meltdown and Spectre can allow hackers to access protected information on your computer's memory.

This could make your passwords, personal photos and email, or anything else you have saved on your computer vulnerable.

The flaws could impact phones, PCs, and servers.

Meltdown, which is considered the more severe flaw, affects "effectively every [Intel] processor since 1995," according to Google security researchers.

Google's Project Zero team discovered that chips from Intel, ARM, and others could allow hackers to access private data from the memory on a device.

That puts many computers at risk since Intel is a major supplier of chips for computers and ARM's architecture is built into the majority of mobile processors.

How Recent Buyers Purchased their Homes

The majority of buyers who obtained a mortgage last year made a down payment of less than 20 percent, according to the National Association of REALTORS®' 2017 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers.

The median down payment in 2017 was 10 percent, according to the report.

The bulk of buyers' down payments came from their personal savings, but a fraction also came from the sales proceeds of a previous residence or assistance from family or friends.

Among first-time buyers, 61 percent made an average down payment of zero percent to 6 percent, according to the November 2017 REALTORS® Confidence Index Survey.

REALTOR® Magazine asked real estate pros across the country about the skills and knowledge they wish they'd gained earlier in their careers.

Here are some of the answers that may help new agents develop a sound footing more quickly.
