2018 Legislative Day

About 500 Washington REALTORS® - including 20 from Spokane - brought the collective voice of  REALTORS® directly to elected representatives in Olympia, this week, as part of the 2018 Washington REALTORS® Legislative Day.

The two-day experience featured the first meting of the year for the Washington REALTORS® Legislative Steering Committee (pictured above) to brief members on current issues on the Hill.

Members of this committee - including Spokane members Marilyn Amato, Michael Baker, and Eric Johnson - decide the positions our state association takes on pending legislation that concerns all aspects of real estate in Washington state.

With direction from the committee, issue management goes to these two state staff members, Bill Clarke, Director of Public Policy (at left in photo above), and Nathan Gorton, Governmental Affairs Director (at right in photo above).  Bill and Nathan briefed attending REALTORS® on a variety of issues that our legislative team is tracking this year - including a legislative fix to the Hirst case concerning rural water rights.

There is encouraging word that final language on a Hirst Fix is being worked on this week, and could be brought forward for votes in both the House and Senate in coming days.

Key Contacts at local associations hold continuing conversations with elected leaders throughout the year, then visit with their designated Members and staff in their Olympia offices on our annual Legislative Day.

REMEMBER: Your RPAC (REALTORS® Political Action Committee) investment makes all of this possible. These conversations directly affect the legislative process that leads to the regulations, taxes, and laws that impact your business every day!

Look for an update on what your local delegation accomplished on our 2018 Legislative Day in next week's edition of the Weekly Notices.

Clubhouse Visits Up

The Children's Clubhouse at Sacred Heart Medical Center reports it had 1,452 visitors during the year just completed (2017) - an increase of 339 visitors from the year before.

The Clubhouse is an official SAR designated community partner so SAR volunteers are a big reason why the clubhouse is able to serve so many guests.

The Children's clubhouse serves as a recreation room for siblings of children who are in for hospital treatment.  The room offers a few hours of play and distraction from an otherwise stressful time.

If you'd like information about joining the SAR volunteer team at the Clubhouse, please contact Tom Clark.
