2019 WR Legislative Day

January 23-24

Registration for 2019 Legislative Day is now open!

Join us for two amazing days of defending our industry in Olympia while enjoying a networking opportunity with hundreds of other REALTORS® from across the state.

Legislative Day is Thursday, January 24th but the full event actually spans two days.

Wednesday, January 23rd is "Committee Day", where members discuss important association business and local and statewide industry trends.

The shape of the association and how we advocate on the Hill is often formed in many of these meetings!

If you're interested in getting involved, this is the place to do it.

Go directly to the 2019 Legislative Day information and registration page, online here:

SAR member Judy Flemmer, EXIT Real Estate Professionals, was a first-time attendee at last year's Legislative Day in Olympia.

"What I was so impressed with was the power that REALTORS have. I had no idea that we actually are the lobbyists and can go and talk with the senators and tell them what the industry needs."

What a Shutdown Means for REALTORS®

As of midnight on December 21, 2018, the President and Congress were unable to agree on the provisions of a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the federal government.

As a result, a partial shutdown of some government operations has occurred.

This partial shutdown includes some federal housing, mortgage and other programs of interest to the real estate industry.

NAR has created a summary of the impact on selected agencies.

You can read that document - What a Government Shutdown Means for REALTORS® (pictured above) - online here.

Condolences

A Memorial Service for Maureen Williams will be held today - Friday, January 4th - at 1:00pm at the Sunset Chapel (Fairmount Memorial Park) 5200 W. Wellesley.

As we reported here last week, Maureen was with Century 21 Beutler & Associates, Spokane. She passed away on Sunday, December 23rd.

See Maureen's obituary online here.

Code of Ethics Requirement

If you took a Code of Ethics class in the past two years - congratulations - you are an active REALTOR® today with full access to the Spokane MLS!

If you are one of the nearly 200 SAR members who did not, your REALTOR® status is suspended for two months while you either take the class and return to active membership or become a former REALTOR®.

NAR requires all active members to take a Code of Ethics class every other year. NAR grants and NAR revokes REALTOR® status.

Check your Code of Ethics status and learn more about your training options online here.

Invest in RPAC

You have a voice in how things are run at the national, state, and local levels that is more powerful than most. It's called RPAC - the REALTORS® Political Actiopn Committee.

This committee engages at all levels - across the country and here at home, throughout the year - on matters of home ownership, private property rights, taxes, regulations, and other REALTOR® issues.

Take a minute, right now, to invest in your business and your profession:

Wire Fraud - A Real Story

A money wire scam has cost a couple its $130,000 down payment for a house in Kansas City.

During the closing process, the couple received an email from someone thought to be their real estate agent.

The message included the address of the home they were buying, their REALTOR®'s name, email address, title company's name, and closing date.

The couple wired the money as instructed.

The money is now gone with little chance of getting it back.

How could this happen and how can you prevent it from happening to your clients?
