SAR 2017 Primary Election Endorsements



Your SAR Governmental Affairs Committee is pleased to announce the list of its endorsed candidates for the 2017 Primary Election.

Endorsements are based on personal interviews and Candidate Verification.  Many hours have been spent by committee members and staff, on your behalf, to make these endorsements:

Members of the National Association of REALTORS® have engaged the association and their fellow agents in social media conversations, email exchanges, and in-person discussions, in recent weeks, about news of online business models, the proposed federal budget, tax changes, and other potential disruptions in the industry.

News about Zillow's "Instant Offers" pilot program has created a particular stir.  Experiments like these can also reinforce the value of REALTORS®.

Home Buyer Spending Patterns


 
 
The wave of expenditures home buyers make after purchasing a property provides an economic boost to local markets and supports new goods and services, a new study shows.

In the first year of homeownership, a new owner will spend about $10,601 on appliances, furnishings, and home improvement projects, according to an analysis by the National Association of Home Builders.

Condolences

       


The SAR family extends its condolences to the family and friends of Dave and Nanette Powell, formerly with Coldwell Banker Tomlinson. 

Dave and Nan (pictured at left) passed away within a short time of each other on July 6th.  They were together in a room at Sacred Heart Medical Center near the end.  They were married 62 years.

A joint memorial service will be held at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline, Spokane, WA, on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 2:00 PM.

The celebration of their lives will continue after the service at Coldwell Banker Tomlinson at 4102 S. Regal Street in Spokane.
 
 


City Zoning and Change of Use Workshop




The City of Spokane is hosting another event in its Housing Development Training Series on Tuesday, July 25th

Open to all - free (unless you want in on lunch).

Session topics Include: zoning fundamentals, building requirements, utilities, stormwater, and road Improvements.

Real Estate Commission Opening




Are you looking to engage the public and play a role in the ever-evolving real estate industry?
 
The Governor's Office is seeking applicants to serve a six-year term as a member of the Washington Real Estate Commission. 
 
The Commission is composed of seven members: two members from Eastern Washington, two members from Western Washington, two members at large, and one ex-officio chair. 

The currently open appointment is "at-large." 

The Commission meets quarterly and develops advice to guide the Department of Licensing as it carries out provisions of Washington Real Estate Licensing Law and Rules. 

Commissioners are paid up to $50 a day for their service, and are reimbursed for certain travel expenses when conducting commission business.
