NFIP Call For Action!

Flooding isn't a big deal in Washington state, statistically speaking (see map above) - until it hits you.

FEMA reports 21 flood events in Spokane County over the past 20 years - about one a year. Floods can, and do, happen here.

Advocating for the real estate industry and consumers across the country is one of our core strengths as an organization.

So, when NAR asks members to support a Call for Action to urge Congress to renew the National Flood Insurance Program before July 31st, it's for us - as REALTORS® and good neighbors.

REALTORⓇ Ranks Rise

The number of residential real estate agents in the Spokane and Coeur d'Alene markets is rising.

Some industry professionals say the Spokane housing market remains healthy but saturated with agents, and others say the Coeur d'Alene market is downright bursting with brokers.

Rob Higgins, executive vice president of the Spokane Association of Realtors, says the organization has more than 2,000 Realtors as members, up from about 1,940 at the beginning of the year.

By the end of this year, Higgins projects the association will involve about 2,100 Realtors, but that number doesn't outpace the prerecession membership peak of roughly 2,300 Realtors, probably around 2007, he says.

Even so, that's a substantial membership increase from a low point of roughly 1,400 Realtors in 2012.

Primary Election Ballots in the Mail

Your Washington primary election ballot will arrive in the next few days, if it hasn't already.

As a registered voter in Washington state, you are one of the nearly 4.3 million people who will be getting one - which must be returned by August 7th.

For the first time since the state went to all-mail voting, you will have the postage covered if you choose to mail your ballot back.

The ballot includes candidates for Congress, the Legislature, county offices and judicial positions.

Under the state's top two system, the two candidates with the most votes advance to the general election, regardless of party preference.

We'll publish a complete list of all SAR-endorsed candidates for the primary election in next week's edition of the Weekly Notices.

SAR Retirement / Job Opportunities

We congratulate Debbie Crowder, SAR Education and Special Events Coordinator, who announces her retirement after 23 years at the SAR.

The strong organization of, and warm welcome to, our many classes and events over the years is credit, in large part, to Debbie's many efforts behind the scenes.

We will miss Debbie and her enthusiasm for her job immensely - and wish her many healthy and happy years in retirement with husband Dave.

A retirement reception for Debbie will be announced later this summer.

With Debbie's pending retirement, the association is seeking a qualified individual to continue in this position.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in exploring this full-time opportunity at the SAR, please contact Rob Higgins at 326-9222. Rob will be in touch with interested candidates the week of July 23rd.

Also, the SAR is seeking a Governmental Affairs staff person to administer our governmental affairs program.

If you, or someone you know, has an interest and background in government and/or public policy, please contact Rob Higgins at 326-9222. Rob will be in touch with interested candidates the week of July 23rd
