Council Enacts Sick Leave

SAR photo

The Spokane City Council on Monday stood by its  decision made nearly a year ago to enact a requirement that employers provide sick leave to their workers, beginning 01 January 2017.

The revised city law passed by a 6-1 vote.

The council heard more than an hour of public testimony on revisions of the city's paid sick and safe leave policy - including opposition from the business community, represented by Greater Spokane Incorporated CEO
Todd Mielke (pictured above).

The city policy will be overtaken by state law, once this fall's successful Initiative 1433 is implemented, on 01 January 2018.

Inspection Contingency Repairs

Washington REALTORS® Legal Hotline lawyer Annie Fitzsimmons receives a question on Inspection Contingency Repairs:

Buyer gives seller a list of repairs. Seller (wife) agrees to the repairs. Seller (husband) is unavailable and cannot sign the 35R. Can the Seller (wife) agree to give more time until Seller (husband) can be reached to give signature to consent to the repairs?

Annie answers in this six-minute video:

Spokane Community Indicators

Spokane Community Indicators

Just like a turn indicator tells others where you're going, Spokane Community Indicators tells us where we, as a region, are going - based on data collected from activity across the Inland Northwest.

For example: statistics on growth in the number employed are among the most widely watched measures of the health of a local or regional economy.  You can sure see when the Recession hit us when you look at this metric (pictured above).

The Spokane Community Indicators Fall e-Newsletter shares information on these topics:
  • The Number of New Jobs Created
  • The Number of Full-Time Commissioned Police Officers
  • The Overall Apartment Vacancy Rate
