President's Message

by Catherine Sturtz

As we open the doors to a brand-new school year, I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for the dedication, heart, and professionalism you bring to your classrooms and the educational community. Whether you're returning with years of experience or stepping into your first year of teaching, know that you are part of something truly meaningful—a profession that shapes futures and changes lives.

This year comes with exciting new opportunities—and important changes. With the upcoming introduction of the new personal finance requirement, along with the ever-evolving landscape of educational tools and resources, we are once again called to grow, adapt, and lead. I am confident that together, through collaboration and shared expertise, we will rise to the occasion and ensure that every student benefits from a meaningful and relevant learning experience.

We are not just educators—we are innovators, mentors, and advocates. As we navigate these changes, let’s lean on each other, support one another, and continue to model the kind of resilience and teamwork we hope to instill in our students. Embracing change isn’t always easy, but it is always more powerful when we do it together.  Let’s inspire curiosity, ignite creativity, and in engaging spaces where all students feel seen, heard, and empowered to learn.

On behalf of the Long Island BTA board we are proud to represent such an extraordinary group of educators. Our collective voice is strong, and our commitment is unwavering. Together, we will continue to advocate for what matters—for our students, for our profession, and for each other.

We look forward to receiving and continuing to grow our membership for the 2025-2026 school year.  Let’s make this year one of growth, unity, and impact. Here's to a successful, fulfilling school year ahead!
