Thank Goodness It's Thursday has started on Thursday, January 9th. Our Community schools' after school programs started on January 6th and continue to grow. We currently have 24 students participating.
Shout Out to Lucia Diaz, Katelyn Becker, and Kacey Yahnke!

Lucia is our school nurse, Katelyn is our social worker, and Kacey is our speech & language pathologist. All three are first-year Bird employees that also work for the community school after there normal school day. Thank you for making a difference!

Thank you to Joy Schulte, Jackie Broyles, and Jacqueline Williams for conducting some of our after school clubs. We could not do it without your help!

After School Programs

We are continuously working on our long term goal of having every student engaged in after school programming. In an effort to do that, we continue to add new and exciting clubs. In January we teamed up with Prairie Music and Arts to offer an Art club, and SPEAK, a spoken word club.

Boys and Girls Club Update

While new Clubs and programming are among the amazing things happening at Patrick Marsh, I would like to highlight the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County for continuing to provide a safe space for our scholars to be. In addition to power hour (homework and academic enrichment), they continue to provide fun and engaging activities. During the month of January, they introduced cooking Tuesdays. The kids have made individualized pizzas, tacos, and homemade cookies. We are so excited to have them on-site!
Our Girls Inc. scholars were able to hang out with the animals and enjoy the zoo lights at Henry Villa Zoo!
After School Programs

We currently have 282 Wildcats participating in one or more of our after school programs. That means almost 70% of our Westside scholars are in one or more of our community school programs! Winter brings additional after school and evening program offerings including drama club for 1st - 2nd graders, basketball leagues and our Tri 4 Schools triathlon program for our Wildcats. This month, we will again be offering our Family Mindfulness series with Erin Sadler, of The Rooted Family, as well as a new Financial Literacy series in which families will learn about budgeting, how much insurance coverage to have and planning for the future. This class will be led by Bonnie Watson, Owner of Aspire CPA LLC, along with Monica Titley, of AllState Insurance. Both classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 7:30 pm beginning Thursday, January 31 . Free child care will be provided for children two years old and up. If interested in registering for either of the adult classes, please reach out to stacy.darga@spcommunityschools.org . We hope you can see that great things are happening at our community school!
Westside Family Fun Night

Oh, the weather outside was frightful, but our Westside Family Fun Night was so delightful that over 100 brave and hardy folks ventured out to enjoy an evening at our community school. We had arts and crafts, hip hop dance lessons with Mr. Max, yummy pizza from Day One Pizza, coding with Code Ninjas, fun activities and the chance to check out books with the SP Public Library and wore off some energy in the gym. A huge thank you to our partners and volunteers for helping make these fun, monthly and free events for our community happen!
Our 5th grade Adventure Club did a litter pick up at Sheehan Park!
Our Garden Club made birdhouses for our school garden!
